I’m being lead to believe they are getting him in a combination with sundin. Sundin is probably gonna have some level of control over who the gm gets since sundin would know better what the leafs need for players. This is why I think they are looking for those 2 together.

As a leafs fan we should be grateful we even made the playoffs for 10 years. Now it is time for other teams to compete.
John Demers on Kyper and Bourne said that the team owner Muruelo stopped Chayka's trade for Tyler Toffoli which Demers said was what exactly what they needed and that Muruelo was the one who got Taylor Hall.
Why Chayka? Because the Leafs are a sacraficial lamb. Always have been and always will be. It is so obvious and blattant I don't see how anyone doesn't see it.
He's a Pelley puppet that won't spend a cent to make the leafs better. He will let Matthews walk or get scraps for him. He will trade Willie after him requesting, he will get scraps again. They will never sign any UFA with a impact because nobody will sign with the Leafs. 4th line players will sign with the leafs as the last option

The issue with crediting the GM's with the picks is we will never know if in fact that was their sole decision or how much pull their scouts, assistant GM's or advisors had in picking that draft pick.
