Connor Hellebuyck is Frustrated with the Winnipeg Jets

Connor Hellebuyck didn’t hold back with his frustrations with the Winnipeg Jets play this season. He took shots at management, and pretty much said unless things get better, he will ask out. This is a dramatic start to the offseason.

  1. Obviously, this organization needs some sort of fresh eyes.

This is getting to a point where it’s gonna get to a place where you’re not gonna see a lot of people get excited to go to Jets games.

Obviously with organization and Mark Chipman saying that he hopes that Kevin Cheveldayoff last longer than him. Are very very concerning comments.

At least to me, it shows a lack of priorities knowing that Kevin has only been our only GM and his five-year plan and don’t get me wrong. I believe in the most part he has build a very, very good group team and very balanced in skill, but the problem is is that the core players that we have from a few years ago that was a very, very big window of 5-7 year window to win the cup.

We are now getting close to a decade with this core that last had a major run in the postseason, which was back in 2018 I was in grade 11.

I also believe number 37 good goaltender, but he hasn’t really done anything postseason to help his cause when he says he works on things during the off-season.

And I also believe sometimes his comments, and I do believe he loves Winnipeg, but his overall comments on his performance can come off as a bit cocky and a bit too American for my liking.

But we need to start getting younger a little bit more on this team or else. This team won’t be competing for a playoff spot and we won’t be only a few points back will be doubled the amount back.

I mean, truthfully, the team is starting to scare me and the organization is starting to worry me about how up and down their players and they’re overall two steps forward one season two step backwards the next. You can’t be retooling a hockey team or a sports team in any regard every couple of years I can get it if it was a one off, but this has been happening post 2018.

I mean, I give them credit regular season. Success is huge especially winning the presidents trophy last year, but if you’re always having the same result by flaming out near the end or when it really matters, you’re never gonna be a successful sports team no matter the players that you have, you can say all the right things every off-season or end of year media availability.

We have heard the same thing for the last seven years we have to get better at this. We have to do this. We have to do that. It’s obviously not showing up in their play maybe for a little bits and pieces of some good glitz we get it, but it doesn’t ever translate to playoff success, which is probably the most concerning thing.

So unless we get some new fresh eyes looking at this team, I think we’re gonna be stuck on this endless loop of not knowing what’s gonna happen and always running it back

  2. Bro gets gifted a gold medal and all the sudden thinks he's the greatest. I'll admit he has a good year every four or so, we can't be having that type of consistency and think we are gonna get anywhere.

  3. Helle is a damned good tender, no doubt, but he shows zero accountability for his own play. To claim that he was no different for the Jets than he was when he won the gold is laughable. There were plenty of games that were lost this season because he was off his game and let in some stinkers. That is the one thing that always bothered me about him personally, he will almost never take any accountability for a loss, the exact opposite of a guy like Ehlers who always laid it on his own shoulders when the team was bad.

  4. Tbh maybe he should play better before making comments like that, he was terrible this year

  5. There's other contenders who would give up alot for Hellebuyck
    1. Vegas doesn't care about futures, has money to Blow. Package could be Karlsson+Hill+1st+1st.
    2. Panthers if Move on from Bob,Maurice knows Helly.
    3. Utah an owner wanting to win and spend. Vejmelka+1st+Desnoyers+2nd
    4. Sabres
    Either Levi/or Luukanen+1st+2 other assets.
    5. LA- Kuemper+1st+2 assets
    6. Philly
    Bjarnason+Gard+1st+1st
    7. NJ
    Mercer+Dillon+1st+2nd

People saying Jets would just suck I disagree we might have to run tandem or sure have a goalie like Pavelec again. But if we get futures+2C/Goalie It won't be that bad
And Jets fans are lying to themselves if they don't see it from our cores view Chevy has wasted their primes 2018 til now

  6. I wonder if any of you actually understand the disparity between his play in the Olympics, and his play as a Winnipeg Jet. With the Olympic team he had fast defenseman and fast forwards that could keep the Canadian players honest. Strong defenseman to clear the front of the net and give him a shot at making a save.
The Winnipeg Jets had none of that. They were an old and slow team this year that other younger faster teams could skate circles around them. That led to screenshots and tips because they were unable to clear the net in front of him.

  7. First off Helle wins the Vezina 3 times and MVP did he do that all by himself…I think not! This year he let in bad goals almost every game other tenders that I saw playing against us were making a lot of saves that were deflected and out played Helle, he didn't steal us a game or 2. Comrie actually played better with the same team in front of him and the so called "screen shots" that according to Helle you can't make those saves Comrie actually made a lot of those.

Him mentioning the gold medal was ego talking, first off Canada out played the U.S. and we missed open nets and breakaways plus it was in O.T. that we lost….so it wasn't like Helle was THE GOLD MEDAL WINNER ALL BY HIMSELF! Helle better buck up and play better next year and worry about those tipped shots and make a few more saves. He basically stunk for the JETS this year every game when we needed a save he lets in a bad one. I got a tip for him quit dropping down and opening up the top corner the rest of the league knows your weakness.

Also quit blaming your team mates they already are looking in the mirror….are you?

  8. Jets don't have a big heavy defenceman who can clear the bodies in front of the net. Stanley got traded and left a big hole in the D. Who are they gonna fill that spot with for next season?

  9. The fans aren't willing to vote with their wallet/be outspoken in a way that would cause True North to listen or wake up as they don't want to lose the Jets again. Having your stars say these things and PUSH for change is the only way to exert pressure. The Jets front office and coaching staff are basically a retirement home; you sign with them, and they might as well issue a headstone as well. I don't want the Jets to be Vegas levels of cut-throat, but if there is ZERO accountability, there is less of a motivation to get better. It feels like ownership wants to get into the Playoffs, have some whiteout and extra income and call it a season.

Chevy has done some great things as GM, and I don't think he's a bad GM, it can get a LOT worse. But he seems stuck or complacent and unwilling to grow or innovate. Arnie may be a good coach, but it's obvious that he doesn't have what it takes to make the players buy in and doesn't have the skill to implement and adjust the system around what he has, the fact that he NEVER broke up the top line pairing is proof that he locked into something that is costing the team.

  10. If we are honest last year was a one off, no one expected at the start that we would be the best team in the regular season. So this year we take a couple steps back lots of teams have off years look at Florida from cup winners to not making the playoffs…. but does their goalie go out to the media and basically throw his team under the bus and brags about his 2 Vezina's? and 2 cup wins that he won all by himself…no he doesn't, maybe Helle should think about that!

  11. Love Helle but he let in a ton of weak goals but Chevy needs to go get rid of Chevy needs to be the new chant next year if Chevy is still hear

  12. Blues fan here. How you coping Winnipeg?? Let's do lunch….ok…maybe not given the current political climate. What a dumpster fire for both teams. Florida, Winnipeg and St. Louis. Add in Toronto not even making it. LOL……Strange season. I'm predicting Colorado vs .Montreal in SCF.

  13. Statue of Hellybyck is a stretch. He won a short tournament on a 3 on 3 overtime. 5 on 5 he's not shown to be a clutch goaltender. One great game does not give you legendary status.

  14. He’s not good, a good goaltender will win you single handed win you a game, here n there,, he was just lucky Canada missed open nets when he was out played.. he’s certainly not a bobrosky!!!

  15. Trade Bucky Wally still worth something. He will never win a Stanley Cup wherever he plays and for anyone that thinks he’s the best goalie in the world change your meds.

  16. Don't have any optimism looking forward – no easy fix for this mess.

37, 44 & 55 should be looking for an 'out' of Wpg

  17. Our system is built to support Helle and it’s never enough. Our system gets exposed every time we get into the playoffs, and Helle turns into a below average goalie. He’s given a lot and has deserved his personal accolades, but I think we could benefit from cashing in on a trade before he ages out. Just my two cents

  18. If anyone actually thinks Helleybuck is gone you're so wrong…

Unless he single handling forces his way out Wich by the way would be bad for trade vaule due to GM taking advantage of a poor situation…

All this is, is a all-star player calling out upper management to get there shit together. It's no different then McDavid in Edmonton…

Good I'm glad he is pushing the management they are so complacent… They need a kick in the butt.

  19. i hope he leaves he can complain all he wants but all the seasons we did have a chance of going far in the playoff the guy forgets how to do his job and becomes the worst tendy in the nhl

  20. I think he'll stay – he as much as said he doesn't want to play anywhere else. BUT, the organization (namely the GM) has to do something to meaningfully address the issues around this team (speed and youth). Thank goodness some important core players (Vilardi, Connor, Hellebuyck) have spoken out about this. Them speaking out is a good thing in the long run for the organization. I don't think that the views/opinions of the fans, sports writers, etc have nearly as much influence as the most important people within the organization, namely: the players. Thank goodness they are speaking out now, so that the team has a chance to address their concerns during the off season. The alternative is that they say nothing and hope the GM and coaches see the same thing the players do and fix it. Speaking out loud about what is wrong is exactly how change comes about. This is the best thing that could happen from a fan perspective – how can Chevy (or management) ignore or fail to address the things everybody (multiple important players especially) are saying. They have young talent within the organization, nows the time to make some meaningful changes. I do not expect the star players to sit around and watch their careers go by and say nothing. Better they speak up now than to hold it all in and demand trades in September or October when / if their issues aren't addressed. This is a good thing!

  21. He should be the org totally messed up this team. Old and slow and still did not spend to get talent or develop younger talent

  22. Warning to Jets management and Cheveldayoff. this is aa Auston Matthews situation. If you can't produce a winning team, Hellebuyck will go elsewhere.

  23. Trade him while he's worth something (his play has suffered)…..we have great young guys waiting…

  24. Just one person’s opinion here but maybe let’s go easy on the statue talk for helle. Great goalie, probably a good guy, but I think there should be some team success to go along with a statue. Hawerchuk is an exception because he’s the best player far and away from a previous team that left and is a connection to that team. But as of now I would say a jersey retirement or ring of honour for helle, I’m here for that conversation. Win us a cup and then we’ll talk statue

  25. Jets had the third or fourth best record after the Olympic break even with this shit team. Don’t hear the media talking about that which adds to this “don’t come to Winnipeg” narrative bull shit. Please don’t add to it

  26. Making significant changes, which is obviously needed, would cost a core pcs, or pcs. Trimming around the edges and signing UFA’s won’t be the answer. I would also say coaching be reviewed.
