Mats also played 1 v 8
have a nice day guys
Can't fix the culture with the same people if it has not been for over a decade
For the love of God
Do Not Hire Gillis
I would have said, Sundin was willing to die on the ice.
I like Wylde, but that was a crash landing.
Did Shanahan want to break up the core a few years ago but was told no by the suits? Anyone know?
Answer to the questionin the title :
NO
WENDEL CLARK DOUG GILMORE DIED ON THE ICE FOR THE LEAFS THEY LITTERALLY BLED BLUE . THOSE 2 MEN ARE CULTURE .
Sundin didn’t get waaaay farther…he never even played for the Cup…one round more than last years Laafs
Man what's next potvin being goalie coach Gilmour for Asst GM LOL
There you go. There's the problem: ChatGPT. Should have been using Claude.
GUESS WHO WAS THE GM IN VAN WHEN MATS PLAYED THERE..
Unless Leafs ownership and Keith Pellie stay out of the day to day running of the club-it won’t matter who is hired as Gm.Ballard meddled all the time,Tennabaum meddled, and so on.That’s the reason the Buds haven’t won a cup since ‘67-not letting the Gm do his job.
why are the 2 most fire and brimstone players (Gilmour and Clark) to ever where the jersey not part of this organization???? absurd..
SUNDIN Died for the Maple Leafs? Are you kidding me "I don't want to be a rental player" and then became a rental player for Vancouver? is that the Sundin you are talking about?😂😂😂😂
This sounds like a classic Leafs move. Instead of hiring a POHO or GM, hire a person that has no experience and provides nothing, but the optics will convince moronic fans to keep spending money.
Sure if the dump matthews.
Sundin I understand and like. I know nothing about Gillis. I feel like Dale Hunter should be approached.
It's all over but the crying. He has to sell everything
Surely Leafs going the boys' club route can't backfire
Hire someone willing to be drastic… Clean House…. Put all your iath in UFA's there is enough of them out there to mae this team an immediate play off team… Then trade this teams players from last season and load up on young skills and draft picks
Oh for the love of GOD. NOT GILLIS!!!
If you Leafs can't hire Gillis, before we(Canucks) fire Rutherford, then enjoy another ROGERS hire
As far as I know he’s been teaching law at UVIC for a while now he has an unusual pathway to get a GM job and is very interesting
Maybe bring back Dubas 😅
How do you establish a good culture without culture bearers? You can say what you want about Sundin, but he was and is a great leader. This is a separate role from the people deciding who the Leafs should draft and trade, this is getting people into the building, who can guide the young players. Most successful sport organizations try to keep former players around, because they garner respect, and bring experience, relatability and insights, which young players need to have around them.
In terms of leadership, I don't think you can get much better than Mats Sundin. Just listen to him talk, or players from his era talk about him, and it's no reason for the Leafs not to try to convince him to be part of the Leafs in some capacity. He doesn't need to make on-ice decisions to be a valuable cog. The Leafs should do more to keep players around after their playing career just for the example they set as people, and the rich experience they can offer to young players, or help Matthew's develop as a captain, and how to keep a locker room together. It's clear the locker room lacks something fundamental.
Shouldn’t it be up to the new hockey management to decide on Sundin? Why on earth is Pelley doing this now, making hockey related decisions??
Gotta be careful with two many former players around. Detroit probably does have too many.
It's really funny how these guys misremember the Gillis tenure in Vancouver. As if he had an easy job cause he had the Sedins.
The Canucks were stuck in a crossroads of "are the Sedins the guys to build around" one year before they were UFAs (same with Luongo), Naslund & Morrison were both UFAs and is the coach right for the team after 2 seasons (Alain Vigneault) when he got the job.
He could've fully tore it down but instead went for a skilled approach and built up the young talent available (Kesler, Raymond, Edler, Burrows, Hansen) while adding guys in their prime by trade or free agency (Ehrhoff, Samuelsson, Demitra, Hamhuis, Malhotra, Ballard)
Basically, it was not a foregone conclusion the Canucks would be the best team in the league 3 years into Gillis' tenure. He actually did "re-tool" without needing to hire a new coach.
In fact it was ownership meddling that caused a lot of the late dysfunction late in his tenure.
He'd be the best fit for the job. Nashville are fools to not consider him.
