Round 1 is setβ¦ but is this already a mismatch? π
On todayβs episode of Oilersnation Everyday, Tyler Yaremchuk, Liam Horrobin, Ryder, and NHL insider David Pagnotta preview the Edmonton Oilersβ first-round matchup against the Anaheim Ducks.
On paper, the Oilers look like the clear favourite β but as we all know, the Stanley Cup Playoffs rarely go according to plan.
The guys break down the key storylines heading into the series, where Anaheim could pose a threat, and whether Edmonton should truly be viewed as a heavy favouriteβ¦ or if thereβs more risk here than people think.

Going to be an ugly first round knock out by Anaheim. You really with this team your making it back to the finals this year? You have less points than Calgary had last year, pretty embarrassing for a team with how many first overalls and how many of the top 50 players?
I have a feeling that Trouba's going to lay a humongous hit on one of Edmonton's top guys and knock Edmonton completely off their game
Oilers just have to stop the Ducks from scoring in bunches.
I will say, with the Oilers, they have been playing way way better then their season averages would give them credit for. They are 2nd in goals against amongst playoff teams in their last 10 games and also sitting at 87.5% on the PK in those last ten games. In their last 3 theyβve allowed just 3 goals against. Unfortunately, they lost two of those games due to lack of offensive production but getting Hyman and Draisaitl back will certainly help with that. They have a good mix of young exciting players, playoff tested and grizzled vets, and even a couple solid veteran players yet to play a real NHL playoff game, and they also have a good mix of skilled forwards, grinders, offensive Defencemen and shutdown guys. Ingram also has a .905 save percentage in his last 10 (which is well above league average which is about .895-.896). The Ducks, on the other hand, have struggled lately. I say Oilers and I donβt think itβs particularly close, but who knows. The playoffs are like the start of a new season. But I think if the Oilers can carry momentum and their recent play into the playoffs, they will come out on top in the end.
All the Oilers have to do is keep playing the steady defensive smothering style of play they have and donβt get involved with running and gunning with Anaheim. Itβs way too risky and like a coin flip.
So if we play hard defence and minimize those shots, we will get our opportunities. I think thatβs the obvious key to beating Anaheim.
I'm pretty confident that oilers are gonna finish this in 5
