Before he was an Olympic hero, he was the kid USA Hockey completely ignored. Driven by a desperate 12-hour road trip just to keep his hockey dreams alive, Connor Hellebuyck clawed his way from a 5th-round draft pick to an NHL superstar. But despite the hardware, critics still whispered that he couldn’t win “the big one.” At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, staring down the greatest Canadian super-team ever assembled, he finally got his chance to silence them for good. This is the unbelievable true story of how an underdog became America’s “Secretary of Defense.”

Has the college awards, regular season awards, Olympics and legend status. Now its time to do it in the playoffs, only thing that's missing..
The fact that Connor McAverage got the MVP instead of Helly is criminal.
He definitely deserves everything he accomplished. Nothing was free for him.
Jim Craig the goaltender for Team USA at the 1980 Olympics stood on his head against the Soviet Union and then against Finland, both games the US needed to win to win the gold medal in 1980. Connor Hellebuyck in 2026 stood on his head in the gold medal game against Canada. He should have been the Tournament MVP imo.
Yay Conner! 😃
That olympic win was awesome! I hope he gets to win the cup one day.
Men from Michigan persevere. Congratulations Hellebuyck
Watched him at UMass Lowell ( had season tickets) , he was awesome back then.
As a Canadian in winnipeg lol thats our goalie this prase is all us baby
Deserves a movie!
Hellebuyck was the only reason usa won Canada dog walked them
He deserves a cup.
I’m Canadian but this is still pretty cool like I wanted Canada to win but he earned it for America
From barely wanted to the President of the United States saying “I really want to meet that goalie”. Crazy journey, American Hero 🙂
Everyone knows who the real MVP of the olympic tournament was.
Amazing video.
I’m thinking there has to be something with the power for the human spirit, especially when embracing that under dog role, combine that when a player or athlete reaches a level where the game or sport etc slows down for them, possibly a level of confidence they achieved,
It gives me chills when I hear stories like this, where someone doesn't stop believing in themselves. I had a similar experience but in a non related field. So many superstar athletes went through the same crucible.
Connor is Boss. He saved Winnipeg's ass multiple times.
with our goal tending the men's and women's teams would've been silver medalists at best
Great video. Nice background stories.
His story needs to be made into a movie.
Well Jim Craig was the same type of goalie even when he went into the NHL he didn't do much but he was spectacular during the Olympics and that's when it mattered
I love Conner I have his signature
