  1. I hate to see a coach whom I had big hopes for have a season like this.and most likely be shown the door. I haven't stopped being a Craig Berube fan, I have just accepted reality.
As for pending decisions that do not include a coaching change: 5 RFAs were in the lineup in last night's game. Of Nick Robertson, Mattias Maccelli, Jacob Quillan, Ryan Tverberg and William Villeneuve, who gets a new contract?
In my not so humble opinion. Robertson gets a short term very tradeable bridge deal, Maccelli is not qualified and walks, Quillan gets a couple of buriable years at just above league minimum, Tverberg is not qualified and Villeneuve gets a buriable 3 x $1M.
I can defend all of these moves but will say that Villeneuve showed he is capable of serving up error free minutes, shoots right and has a shot.

  2. If they don’t fire him it’s a joke. His system does not work with the players here. Matthews plays more time in the defensive zone than the offensive zone in comparison to Keefe. You can’t be utilizing one of the years top scorers constantly in the defensive zone. Take care Craig

  3. This core group of players has had 3 coaches, 3 GM types, and a change in president and multiple roster changes around the core group. It is pretty clear from all this that problem is the core group of players. Yes I know Nylander and Matthews have skill and can put up some points, but they cannot drive to team to greater heights and wins like genuine elite leaders do. They have had 10 years and multiple groups of players around them and different coaches and systems and have achieved basically nothing in that time. IF it was me I would be telling Matthews, Nylander and Reilly we are going full rebuild and would you give us a list of teams you would be willing to go in search of a cup because you are not going to get it here any time soon. A fourth coach for this group isn't going to make much if any difference.

  4. Honestly, Craig seems like a great guy. I won't say anything bad about him but as a fan, I didn't like his coaching style. Even last year when they had more wins, it just wasn't nearly as fun to watch the team play. I didn't like how reliant the team was on asking their goaltender to stop every puck and generate so little offense. I get it, that can work for teams and win them the Stanley cup – it was just boring to watch. For that reason, I really hope he is able to become the head coach for another team next season.

  5. This is ragebait. Are you telling me this man chose defiance?? Nylander and Matthews care more about their designer street clothing than winning. We don't want you, any of you, here. – Real Canadians

  6. They loose a great hockey player and expect him to preform a miracles ! 😊Thanks Craig I’m still a fan!

  7. He has no problem with the culture. WTF, is he talking about the same team that, as leaf fans, we have watched all season. Please just stop lying and man up and tell the truth.

  8. The biggest difference from last year is goals against?? Wtf what about shots against? What about defensive structure. What about ability to get out and into zones? I feel like he's interviewing for a new job and not being real and honest about where things are or how we got here.

  9. Interesting so many players indicated something they can do next year is to "buy into" the defensive aspect of the game which just happens to be what Coach B brings.

  10. The D needs a overhaul. You need a certain amount of points from your D to make the playoffs. Trade one goalie and a top player for D help. Look at Buffalo and Tampa's D compared to the leafs.

  11. Craig is right about 'goals against" was a problem this year, but what has changed is that the defensive coach sucks. There were too many overtime losses, and the second period for this team was consistently bad for line changes that resulted in many goals against. Terrible performance by the coaches in not turning that second periods around. New robots are needed behind the bench, along with the AI tools.
