I knew it was going to happen. When everyone else had fortified their roster the Red Wings waited till the very end. Should have done it sooner.

The situation is bad but Elias Petterson at $11 million a year would be a disaster. He hasn't even put up 50 points this year and he's known to be trouble in the locker room. The team is soft and probably has locker room problems already, no need to double down on it.
Now Quinn Hughes is a different story. I know there's no guarantee that he would re-sign but it was worth the gamble for literally a top 5 player in the league. It would have put us back into the playoffs, Quinn Hughes already is friends with Larkin…..WHY did this not go down?
Elias petterson is the reason Quinn Hughes left. He made JT Miller get traded and the team sucked too bad for Hughes to stay.
i was at the game. it was atrocious. it was more than a choke. officiating was god awful. there was many missed calls. doesnt excuse the discombobulated plays most game. 21 years a fan and ive never booed and yelled as much as i did. they deserve it.
A fresh start for EP40 in Detroit, plus the fact Raymond and Pettersson have in the past and would in the future put up a lot of points together, definitely needs to be given consideration by Yzerman. Canucks retain and you pry EP40 out of Van for fewer assets than Thomas.
I would laugh so hard if they traded for Pettersson.

The Wings were never a legit Top team in the East. They're record was very flattering – Gibson had a lot to do with that. They're just an average team and ultimately they finished where they should have.
I think Stevie has to take a very close look at who belongs on this team and who doesn't. I think we see a summer of trades and buyouts, but not trades in the "overpaying for Pettersson" kind of way.
After Finnie scored I told my wife they would not hold the lead. I wasn't disappointed.
It would be funny if they overpaid to get Hronek back. Maybe they take Hronek and Petey for a massive haul. They gave up an unprotected 1st for a 34 year old.
There is no way Yzerman will make a move because of pressure. He isn’t losing his job. And picking up ep40 would be dumb.
We have a guy who's 5' 8", weighs 175 lbs, leading the scoring on the team. What's that tell you ? Get stronger, bigger and faster if you want to contend. I get a sick to my stomach feeling when I think about them trading Elmer to the Pens. Might come back to bite us in the @$$. Good draft picks are not being developed into NHL talent. Why is that?

We don't need a center to play behind Dylan Larkin we need a true 1C to play IN FRONT of Dylan Larkin and he can play on the second line which he earned this year
Thinking of trading EP 40 right now, I don't know. If there's a possibility he bounces a little further back to his form next year, after giving him a sniper like Lekaramaki to play with, maybe he'll be worth more by next year's deadline. Maybe. Or we could trade him before July 1and retain salary
EP40 has a NMC. So he would have to wave it.
The Red Wings can score, but they need defensively responsible players. EP40 is that. Not worth 11.6 , but if they can afford that and get him for a low price, I think they are better off having Pettersson than not.

You can give him away with that massive contract or trade him away with half salary retained but you can't do both.
Mickey Redmond is awesome. Ken does good play by play BUT-
–seriously –– 12 times a game—-when puck is live in play, Ken will blab such useless stats and trivia. Literally about some 4th line player on the other team being from Bakersfield, or how some other guy from the other team was 43rd overall in 2016 and played for Toronto and Boston and Arizona and came over in a 4 man deal. Vancouver would have to retain some of that contract before Yzerman would even take a chance on him.
