Will Casey Alexander’s approach work at K-State? | Daily Delivery

| GoPowercat publisher Tim Fitzgerald offers his daily thoughts |

New Kansas State basketball coach Casey Alexander and the three coaches he has hired have not coached or recruited at the power level of NCAA basketball. Wondering if they’re equipped for the challenge is a legitimate question, but Fitz admits he didn’t ask the correct similar questions with the hiring of Jerome Tang.

  1. I watched Jack Hartman's teams from the start. I think he did a really good job building a program. I think Casey will do a great job too.

  2. You and Gilbert are not being doubtful, you are being skeptical.

Skepticism is normal and can be healthy as long as the conclusions you draw are informed by the fact as they unfold and not a pre-determined opinion one way or another.

  3. I feel like it’s normal for a fan base to be overly optimistic every time there’s a new hire but K-State fans take it to a different level. Gilz is totally right to have skepticism. I think Casey will do a fine job but he can’t win knockout games and he’s never been on the receiving end of the portal. It’s not a lock.

  4. The portal is a bit like a draft where you don’t control everything with a player. Perhaps better compared to a fantasy sports auction draft where you have a budget and can’t buy every player you want and have to adjust your recipe on the fly.

  5. Fitz. I always thought the same thing about coach Tang……he could really talk and recruit, it was just the x and o's part that was the struggle and thats why Driscoll was brought in………if this coach can get just decent athletes but really be a great coach on and off the floor, well I hope we may be in a good place. Time always tells….

  6. Did you see how bad the funds were misused under the former staff? Paid guys that were terrible, can't be any worse.

  7. Absolutely no problem with being skeptical after what transpired with the last staff. I for one am choosing to withhold judgement until i actually see what happens on the court, but i cant blame anyone for being skeptical.

  8. I sure hope KST can get a great basketball program going again. I will say that I am a KU fan due to being at games and watching Wilt Chamberlain play. I still hate to see State struggling in this area. Right now KU is having their problems with retaining their players. The NIL has actually ruined the sport of basketball. Sure hope this new coach will get KST back to the tournament.
