What kind of an effort are we going to see here…?

The Montreal Canadiens had their momentum checked in a 5–2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets—and honestly, this one felt like a classic “one team needed it more” game.

Columbus came out flying and never really let go. They scored early and often, jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the first, then stretching it to 4–1 in the second. Charlie Coyle led the charge with two goals, while contributions came from Boone Jenner, Kirill Marchenko, and Sean Monahan.

Montreal just never matched the urgency. Defensive breakdowns, slow starts, and sloppy puck management defined most of the night. That said, Cole Caufield stayed red-hot, scoring his 51st goal of the season, continuing a ridiculous heater.

A couple of concerning moments too:

Noah Dobson left after blocking a shot
Ivan Demidov took a scary hit but returned

Despite the loss, the Habs are still right in the playoff mix—but this was a reminder that effort level matters, especially against desperate teams. Columbus played like their season depended on it… because it does.

  1. Alright – Islanders next… and there's something to look forward to, stay tuned! Love yas – have a good night, I'm headed to bed.

  2. Was at the Bell Centre tonight. So many mistakes by most of the team. They seemed tired. Left it all against TB. Beaucoup de problèmes d'exécution et mauvaises décisions. Just happy for 99th point for Suzy. Et quel but crosse-coin de Caufield.

  3. Canadiens are basically ballet dancers we have no defense and they never start off in the first. They are never ready to start the game they will lose by 5:00 again tomorrow to New York Islanders they will be on the golf course after the first round

  4. The refs sucked again. The bright spot Cole goal #51 and Suzuki point #99. Will Guhle be back soon?

  5. Habs are a soft team in the house, why do they always front players and then run around chasing getting caught on the outside..53 has a broken hand

  6. Dobes had an odd off night as well as defense. Just shows how they need to score more as can't always rely on soild goaltending and defense. Need to get the puck towards the net more and not towards the boards so much. Can't count on winning board battles

  7. If Reinbacher makes the transition…his skill is equal to Mathson and Dobson….good size 6-3 200 ibs a touch more physical…he will have to toughen up still.

  8. Nice video, man… But it would be better if you cut the lounge music in the background. Too distracting.

  9. Yeah…understandable, with the playoff spot secured, but I sure would prefer winning all of them and keeping macro-momentum.
    Oh well.

  10. It’s bad we might have lost Dobson for a bit but Carrier and Guhle will be back soon enough .
I’m more worried about Demidov playing on a second line with two third liners .
A lot with be riding on the first line’s shoulders during the playoffs .

With Hage not making his pro debut next year , they might as well use him as a trade asset to get some help for Ivan .
It would be criminal to have a player like Demidov play another full year without at least 1 other legit second line player .

I think it’s reasonable to say that he could have gotten close to an 80 point season with better linemates .

  11. Poor effort again. Struble .ade a costly mistake and Matheson had a series of brain cramps as usual. Looks like Dobson is out but hopefully Ghulie gets back soon. The team has improved from last year which is good but if they do manage to get past the first round I don't see it being far. As much as I'd love to see it they just aren't there yet. But fingers crossed ! GHG

  12. Deep playoff run = chemistry, depth, goaltending, experience, size. Habs are slowly checking boxes… how would you rank these/ what variable would you add?

  13. can't win every game, enough said, onto the next game, losing Dobson is concerning, but you are correct, we are in the playoffs some rest is in order

  14. As much as I hate to say it, it's a game they should've played fowler, I was expecting to see him. I could see Dobes was physically tired, and the D was making it hell on him

  15. Getting SO tired of getting seriously excited about this team and then watching them take an ugly dump. This was NOT a playoff worthy team tonight. Not even close.

  16. I didn't feel the same level of effort and implication we are now used to. I guess it's only human, after having put so much pressure behind them — Caufield's 50th, Slaf's 30th, securing a place in the playoffs… Let's hope they'll bounce back in time for the real season.

  17. 6:04 Why does thr goaler has to go behind.. lot of time it end up a goal because he doesn't have time to get ready for action.. I hate when that happen. STAY IN YOUR NET

  18. It is a shock to see Montreal get trounced. Just a real nothing game even MSL took the game as a chance to try some different combinations. I sure hope Struble – Xhekaj never happens again.
I am just hoping Suzuki gets his 100 point.

  19. Every time the Habs looked like they were getting something going the refs blew the whistle. Deeply frustrating game to watch.

  20. I went to the Rockets game yesterday for tbe first time: 1) is a horse and noticeable every shift 2) Xhekaj is as advertised, he rarely sits down on the bench, is always ready and observing, not just watching. 3) Reinbacher still a bit awkward, almsot like he needs to grow into himself a little more.
