Idk if they are having four nations or some stupid shit like that next season but if they are all the wings players need to not play. Larkin has won his medal. Seider and Raymond have represented their countries enough for now. How about some resting during the break and committing yourselves to making the playoffs for the fans that support you and the team that provides you with an incredible lifestyle?? The last two years Larkin and Raymond tired or hurt afterward. If I were wings I’d say you’re not going.
When Yzerman didn't pull the trigger on Hughes in early December (especially when you look at what the Wild gave up for him) it's a kick in the nut sack

I think the team was better this year — could see development in a lot of the younger guys (seider, edvinsson, asp, finnie, johanssson, raymond).
We got a handful of wingers, and a few good goalies in the pipeline, but from the forwards side, I'm not sure any of them have the physicality, grit, and attitude that this locker room needs.
I think Yzerman needs to look at getting replacing 2-3 pieces this offseason with players that fit that type of culture, even if it means they aren't the most productive. I think (copp, compher, rasmussen, appleton) are the obvious chopping block candidates. I think JVR and Kane are great players too, but I'd only retain them if we're getting good deals like this year.
To win in this league you MUST find another gear when February comes to an end. The only teams that make it are the teams that can find the will to push harder and endure longer and the Wings don't have it.
I want the media to take some blame for these idiotic questions all year day after day. Why do they all have to ask the same questions. Send one guy in there and ask em. Why do you have to ask every guy the same thing, then ask them after practice the next day.

The fans and media need to put the focus of blame where it truly belongs and that's on the players. The Red Wings were on top of the Eastern Conference for much of the season. That proves they had enough talent and were capable of making the playoffs. The players have called out coaches, fans, media and the GM. It's time they looked in the mirror.
I really think the style of hockey they were trying to play was not an effective one and it's a big part of why so many players looked hopeless with basic stuff that every other team can do. There need to be some players gone next season, for sure…but it's a team game. And they were all bad at fundamental stuff all season. I have to question the coaching.

That alone tells you all you need to know. We have a captain that doesn't recognize when the team is playing like shit and hold them accountable for it.
These guys look mentally and physically fatigued. This seems to happen every March. We all know that when you're tired you make mistakes and injuries are more likely to occur. Maybe the physical training and maintenance program needs a complete overhaul. I would question the dietary program as well, based the the first period "slow start" tendency and on the lack of consistent energy and strength at season end. Finally, I don't see how you CANNOT teach a "defense man" how to play defense. You have two young guys who are a P/M of -17 and -21 !!! Not entirely their fault because the term "back check" is apparently only a suggestion to some of the forwards. ASP has a good shot and skates well but is too small to be a dominating defense man. Send him back to GR or move him to right wing.
Pretty disappointing. These guys have been blowing leads all year long.
Hopefully they add someone like Robertson in the Offseason to get some more offense and then add some more speed and grit to the bottom 6 forwards because my god its hard to watch guys like Rasmussen dump the puck into the corner and attempt a wrap around every time he's on the ice. Also I love JVR and he pitched in Offensively this year but he's just too slow out there, also Perron is officially just too slow too now too. For Appleton I think he's just experiencing the playing all year long with Rasmussen effect and think hes got more in him. Would be helpful to also add someone who is willing to fight too like McCarron or Cousins.
Few positives on the year though are Seider emerges as a top 5 Defenseman, Edvinsson takes a step and demonstrates he's a true 1st pair Defenseman, we picked up a true #1 goalie in Gibson, shored up the Top 4 Defenseman with Faulk for next year, Sandin Pellikka, Finnie, and Kasper showed they're NHLer's, we have some more quality prospects on the way, Cossa, Augustine goalie of the year NCAA, Plante Hobey Baker winner NCCA, Danielson, Brandseg-Nygaard, Genborg, Bear, Lombardi, etc

I don’t blame the players or coach McCellan ,this all on the architect of the team ie Yzerman and his “staff”. The game has passed them by. They assembled this 1 and half line and 4 good D men on the cheap and expected the coaches to make something out of nothing. They were just painful to watch. Calgary Flames of east .🤬
I think the fans need to look in the mirror as well. This team had no chance to win a playoff series let alone a championship. This whole "we have to make the playoffs or blow it all up" scenario sounds like female hysteria of the 1950s, as portrayed in movies, where somebody had to slap them back to reality. Here's the reality: everything that could have went wrong after the Olympics went wrong. Outside of the top 5 or 6 guys the players were average to awful on most nights. Whatever Seider did over last summer to transform himself into a beast needs to be imparted to Raymond, Larkin, Kasper and the core players who disappeared for games at a time. I agree that we need an impact player like Quinn Hughes or Austin Matthews but we also need to find one forward in Grand Rapids that can put up 25 goals. I think Finnie and Kasper have the potential down the line but Yzerman needs to start trusting the young forwards and let them suffer growing pains and rid us of perennial losers like Ras and Compher.

As a sens fan I actually feel sorry for you guys. I never hated Detroit I loved old Detroit Yzerman Federov Osgood so on, it will be fun to watch the wings in the playoffs. That said, the Devil's really wanted to screw you guys over tonight, and they did. Goodluck next season boys and girls.
