Ottawa should keep Egor Sokolov in the system. Perhaps Branny, Zaitsev* (% retained), and two 2nd round 2024 picks (ott and wsh) for Chychrun; although I like the Florida trade more if it could be pulled off.
I'd take the chychrun trade in a heartbeat. Branny is never up to playoff hockey, he's barely up to regular season hockey. Sokolov hasn't improved his skating enough. Snatch their arm off on that trade.
Chychrun isn't a right shot defenseman, google it, he's left shot… Also for Weegar I'd rather wait till the offseason next year. He's from Ottawa and friends with Giroux AND unlike Chychrun, Weegar actually is a Right Shot defenseman.
So basically Connor Brown, Brannstrom, Zaytsev and Sokolov…. No thanks I’d rather keep all those guys. We need depth on defence and Zaitsev and Brannstrom are capable defenseman. It’s just Zaitsev Gets paid too much. I don’t think it makes sense going after another left-handed defenseman. Rather sign Klingberg to a two-year contract
I think they’re going to trade a guy like Formenton now… DeBrincat and Giroux acquisitions mean no more top six minutes for Pinto and Formenton. I mean I’m glad they acquired some good players but not at the expense of our young stars that need that valuable development time in the top six that’s no longer there. They’re not going to be happy playing third line minutes so eventually a trade will happen. It has to now. Acquiring a defenceman will certainly include one of these guys unfortunately. I personally think they should’ve waited a year before swinging for the fences. We are certainly going to regret treating either of these guys as forms is a 30 goal scorer and pinto will be one of best young two way centres in the game. Unless of course they’re just buying time and planning on Debrincat hitting free agency in two years, Then I don’t mind it so much as our guys have a reason to improve and get better, it would be a mistake trading either players
I dont think that Arizona would be the best option.I would move Ziatsev.Either Weegar or Demello from Winnipeg.I kind of like Demello who has worked with some good defenceman in Winnipeg and the price would be a lot cheaper would be the way.Plus he has connections with Ottawa.He is around a plus 7 and is a good skater
