The Yzerplan FAILED

The Yzerplan was supposed to save the Detroit Red Wings. Instead, the same collapse keeps happening. After years of trust, patience, and near-breakthroughs, everything is starting to feel stuck. With the 2026 playoffs slipping away, one question is unavoidable. Was this rebuild ever working, or did belief outlast the results?

  1. Our team is solid. You're right. But now that the old timers are retiring and fighting is coming back to the league, we need a couple goons. Guys who hit the ice and the other team gets scared because theyre worried if that goon is going to pick one of them to either lay down a good check or fight you till your teeth fall out. Just my opinion…

  2. The defense is solid. The forward group does not score enough beyond 4 guys. Think maybe jumping the gun on thevplan failing. Copp, Tarensenko, JVR, are just fillers until your youth shows they can help. Sadly the forwards have not arrived.

  3. Emotional take that is strictly based on them not making the playoffs this year. Was anyone expecting them to win it all this year? You know Chicago is basically on the same no playoff streak minus a blip in 2020 with the play in round right? Do you want to be Chicago bad? You know Finnie is a rookie and Edvinsson and Kasper are sophomores right? Not to mention 2 of the best goalie prospects in the sport right now. Do you actually think this is some sort of a window right now for this team? If Finnie is what’s to come with some of these draft picks we are in good shape going forward. Still a young team. We will end up with mid 90s in points, enough to make the playoffs in the west and our best point total for a decade. What were we supposed to do, blow up the farm for two years of Hughes like Minnesota did? The wild are going nowhere in the playoffs this year and they traded all their good young assets (that they had control over) for what will be a flash in the pan.

  4. Look at Bill Geurin with the Wild. Those Suter and Parise contracts hand cuffed that team. He still put together playoff teams and remained competitive. There’s no excuse for Yzerman. Making the playoffs at least once in your long tenure should be more than attainable.

  5. I’m the biggest wings fans and he didn’t build shit we have traded so many guys gained some lost some wtf happened to gostisbehere and tarasenko? Both doing well and lyon doing well with buffalo now?
