The San Diego Gulls exploded for five second-period goals to power past the Bakersfield Condors, 6-3, Friday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego. After a scoreless opening frame, Bakersfield struck first with back-to-back goals early in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Gulls answered immediately, beginning with a Ryan Carpenter power-play goal at 5:12 that sparked a dominant stretch. Just 13 seconds later, Cal Burke evened the score before Justin Bailey buried a power-play marker to give San Diego its first lead. Bailey added a shorthanded goal later in the period, and Sasha Pastujov capped the five-goal outburst late in the frame to send the Gulls into the intermission up 5-2.
Bakersfield cut into the deficit early in the third period on Quinn Hutson’s second goal of the night, but the Gulls stayed in control the rest of the way. Matthew Phillips added an insurance goal midway through the period to seal the win. Bailey led the way with two goals, earning first-star honors, while Carpenter recorded a goal and two assists in a strong all-around performance. San Diego finished 2-for-4 on the power play and added a shorthanded tally, showcasing a decisive special teams advantage in the victory.
