The hit is suspendable, yes. But 3 games with no history, not even a fine? Feels a bit excessive. ESPECIALLY when you see teams like Florida pull this crap off and get off scot-free all the time. Consistency is a necessity. Then again, I haven't taken the DOPS seriously since Shanahan left. The whole situation with the Campbell's (which is a blatant conflict of interest imo) turns it into an absolute joke. That said, given the opponents coming up (especially with the all the games being at home) the Penguins need to tap into their depth here and go 3-0-0, even without Rust. You're playing a team in Chicago with a losing record and then two last place teams in NYR and OTT. Get the job done and welcome Rust back for a HUGE game against the Islanders.
3 games is excessive. Rust has zero history of cheap shots, and I don't even think he's ever thrown a hit before honestly. This is an unintentional isolated incident, and 3 games for an isolated incident is ridiculous.
Put dewar at the 1rw and put hayes 4rw. That disrupts things the least. Would love to have hallander right now

The thought process of breaking up 3 lines to put Hayes in is insane! I get not throwing Hayes in the lineup when the lines are all clicking (except line 1 really, but that could pop off in any game) throw Hayes on 1. If it stinks you can mix in someone as the first game goes on. To have the thought that Hayes was the only reason for the losing record with him in the lineup is goofy.

I think one of the things against Rust is that the game was practically over when it happened, which the League really, really does not like. We have to remember that when comparing future suspensions.
I'd like to see Hayes on the line with Sid….Avery Hayes. Or, Tanner Howe, if he's off IR, since he's been in Pittsburgh all along for recover and training.
If Rust was a goon and it was a playoff game against one of the star players then it wouldn’t have even been a fine. But because Rust isn’t a goon, it wasn’t a playoff game, and it wasn’t vs a star player, and Rust has no history of dirty play it’s a 3 game suspension. Maybe we should stop letting former goons be the head of the DoPS
As for replacing Rust. Bring up McGroarty or Koivunen and stick him next to Sid. I know their last stint they were snake bitten but it’s better than sticking old and slow Hayes there. And since it’s 3 games and not just one I think it would be better to call one of them up.
If you watch the clip again, you’ll see Boeser move backwards, which causes Rust to hit his head rather than his body. That hit was not as bad as some people are making it out to be
I saw that given Rust's salary, that is an $80k+ fine. That is massive compared to what some of these goons get for a dirty high stick, cross check, elbow, etc.

Kindle has that way to him, sort of like Crosbt where lets say they both don't score for awhile where in most cases if a player doesn't produce on the score board Kindle and Sid do not necessarily have to score to have a good game. They have so much to their game that because of their hockey IQ, their two way game, and their defense, also passing…..they can have a significant presence yet not score. It's what makes these guys so great!
