Very good & honest assessment of the Wings situation. I think the ‘March slump’ is the Wings playing like it’s October when the rest of the league is focused on making the playoffs. Too many players on this team had a life dream to make it to the NHL & not enough of them have the dream of winning the Stanley Cup.
The Yzerplan: for the next 2 Franchises that join…we will not have any good players they can take from us. While everyone else is gonna get weaker, we are gonna stay just the same. Which is the same as improving. Yzerman playing 4dimensional chess while the rest is playing hockey.
The Wings turned into the Lions. Management don't care about the fans only about selling hotdogs n beer. promise everything and pull rug out Stevie's career we thank him for his sacrifice. But he cares n did more for Tampa than the team he played for .FIRE YZERMAN. But one question Stevie who you taking orders from Toronto or Vegas?
I feel like this team would be in a good position if they had acquired a forward or two at the TDL: Sherwood/Marchment/McMann for example. Those are the types of depth players this team could use while we wait for the prospects. Enough with the old and slow guys who don't bring anything physically.
They need speed and a playmaker. Nobody can get their own. Can't maintain the zone to evem begin to setup. Constantly out of position to forecheck. The core isn't good enough. Raymond is either scared to take a step or he's already maxed out. But i remember aggressive Raymond last year when Larkin was out again. Been a passive sheep all year. Larkin is near useless im 5 v 5. Mo doesn't have a shot. Then ya got the kids that apparently suck. Trade Gibson to a team with offense that is desperate for a G. Start Cossa next year. Is Augustine ready? He's 2. Got a lot of older dead weight as well. Hate saying it but he's forever my captain. But i don't think Steve can be our gm.
Moritz Seider has the highest breakout zone rate of our defense at 69% For context, league average is 50%. Edvinsson- 41% Chariot- 50% Faulk-48% It doesn’t get any better. So our defense outside of one player can’t clear, our offense can’t forcheck or score, and the power play is inept. This roster needs a major shake up from top to bottom. Q. Hughes zone exit rate: 96%.
It takes time… It takes time… At some point you start wondering if it will take so much time for our prospects to pan out that it will require an additional rebuild. It's starting to look like Buffalo's rebuild.
I disagree management has done a poor job at getting the proper players needed. Yzerman is pretty good a drafting available talent but falls short at free agency and trading for talent. He had a chance at Q Hughes and picks up Faulk. Come on dude you can't even compare the two, and they contributions they make. He could of traded for Thomas a much needed center and he picks up Perron a useless aging decrepit old fart that contributes nothing. I now live in Tampa area, and the knock on Stevie here is he has a tendency to pick up players that are soft, smaller in stature, and they were getting impatient with him here as well. Look when he left for the Detroit job the incoming GM went out and picked up the talent needed for the cup runs, something Stevie was incapable of doing. They don't miss him here. They do appreciate his effort in drafting some great talent but that's as far as it goes. Stevie is great at the drafting part of his job but sorry, he sucks at the rest of it IMHO.
This team makes me think of a south park episode where the kids find out they are about to make playoffs and don't want to play softball all summer. They actually pratice to be bad. Like being able to hit the ball right into other teams gloves lol. Red wings are pussies. Its obvious when in march when teams really turn it up we see the wings turn off.
This team does not have the right core. The bottom six don't score. The top six have to carry the team. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. When they don't, they lose. This is a management problem. No mojo in the locker room.
Edvinsson is very obviously playing hurt, I think he came back early because we were and are desperate. Raymond may be hurt, he may also be too in his own head. Raymond was 3rd in points in the Olympics behind only McDavid and Celebrini, I dont think that was a fluke. Maybe this team needs to see a sport psychologist to learn how not to think themselves out of wins, when you get to the pro level the mental game becomes 10 times more important
I’m baffled at the Soderblom move most of all. At least he showed flashes being a stud in his limited minutes….yet we roster players like Ras, compher, Bernard-docker….Yzerman is freaking lost
When march approaches and all the teams in the playoff race step up their play to make the playoffs, the Red Wings are unable to match the desire and tenacity to stay in the race.
Great video. I agree with you on most points. I have been saying this about Patrick Kane all season. The Red Wings are expecting too much out of him. He physically just cannot do it anymore. I don’t have a problem with him on the second line if he has a high quality center with him and debrincat but he is such a defensive liability plus he cannot skate into the offensive zone on his own anymore. Patrick Kane is a half ice offensive zone specialist, which is the equivalent of kind of what LeBron James is in the NBA comes in and can score occasionally but don’t expect any defense for check. I don’t have a problem with the Ben charot signing. He’s a cheap contract and I think he’s supposed to be a seventh option. I do have a problem with the docker signing which I think is more indicative of what they really have in the defensive depth and coming up. I don’t see of any trade prospects that the Red Wings could impose on any other team or free agents that are worth signing I maintain and this is my most important piece. Is that the Red Wings screwed up or that yzerman screwed up by trying to build this team in free agency in 2022 and beyond. The Red Wings really needed a top five pick in both 2022 and 2023 and arguably in 2024 . So while they have improved point wise every year and actually have improved defensively at least in numbers although I would put a lot of that on Gibson they are a stagnant team where they are at currently in the standings is where there will continue to be and that’s by design I really think yzerman thought he could make some crafty moves in the off-season’s as as well as during the season in order to improve this team as well as sign at least one top free agent. The reality of the problem in today’s NHL is players have no incentive to play for an original 16 that’s struggling. These players put money over tradition, which is fine because you have teams like Vegas in Colorado and Tampa, who have all won the cup this decade alone they get financial incentive through tax structures and better weather Detroit is not a free agent destination. So again, this goes back to my point of we needed to get top five free agents we still could’ve made the trade to try to get guys like trouba which clearly fell through but then doubling down and giving away players and pics just to shed contracts for nothing in return is the definition of insanity. Yzerman has done this several times with Walman and , tarasenko. He literally gave them away or attached a pic and got nothing in return. I understand both had their problems, but these are moves that baffle me as a fan, and those are bad moves made by a general manager . In woman’s case, I don’t understand why they couldn’t have gotten trouba then traded wallman. I really wish Steve would be transparent with why he made that shrude move.
I also wanna agree with you about their offensive decision making dumping it into the zone is not working. Our power-play went from pretty good to completely abysmal. They are bad five on five, so they need to be better on power play. The sad reality is Steve traded away this first round pick without protection and this team is nowhere close to being a playoff team . And what’s crazy is going back to the beginning of the season if I were to have made a prediction video I would’ve said this team is no more than around a bottom 10 team in the NHL, which is roughly around where they are at perspectively although looking at their standings, they are actually in the top 15 but it’s their division that’s so brutal . Either way it doesn’t matter the team that we’re seeing on the ice is not what we saw through the majority of December January, and some of February . I feel like water found its level and they are back to what I expected them to be. I am ranting too long, but I’ll just summarize and say we aren’t getting enough production out of our top stars and are getting virtually nothing from our bottom six which may very well be the worst bottom six in the NHL. Also, our record since the Olympics is the second worst in the NHL that in itself says everything you need to know about if this team is going to make the playoffs second in the worst in the NHL!
Easy team to scheme for. Clog the red line, they’ll dump it in, forecheck doesn’t work, opposing d brings it out now you’re on your heals and then we can’t fing clear.
Larkin seems to think just putting the loss behind you will solve it. I think he’s a shit leader and couldn’t motivate a fart. Demoting him might shake him and the team. Sure he’s injured. But when does the injury become a detriment?
Trading the pick with no protections when the east looks like it does this year was totally stupid. I think we should just flip faulk this summer, trade gibson, use whatever assets we get from that and try to make a swing for a long term big piece
Stevie said at the beginning of the season that his "hopes were to make the playoffs", but he also felt this team might not make it. He expressed that in an interview. It's funny, the Sharks are in a 4 year rebuild and they're in the same spot we are, fighting for a playoff spot, and we're at year 10. No grit. Teams have brought on grinders like Reaves or Olivier or Gudas, and we have who? We had Shine, but "he's not good enough for primetime". We have no D depth. Edvinsson hesitates too much. It's amazing how many other teams in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the playoff race actually skate the puck into the O zone ,while we dump and chase. No one parks themselves in front of the net. No one is getting in the kitchen of the other stars, drawing penalties. Our PP was in the top 3 last season, what the heck happened to it? It's the same guys! Is it too much talent? Is it not enough? Dude ? Your not a Wings fan if you think a record 10 years without a playoff berth is okay. It's not acceptable. Even the "Dead Wings" still made the playoffs after 7 years.
It’s tough because there are players you love to root for when things are going well, but with injuries that get reaggravated or something who knows they can never maintain their peak performance it seems
Excellent breakdown. I agree on pretty much everything but the importance of Kane, and that's primarily because I'm a fan. The summary really says it all. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's needed to get over the hump and make the playoffs. Who wants to play, who wants to contribute, how badly do you want to win? The players make their motivation. And if they're not, there's no reason to be in Detroit. As much as it pains me to say this, Larkin is the biggest example. The biggest question after all of that is who do you replace these guys with.

The moose should have been dealt instead of Elmer who actually forechecks
Larkin is not a leader; he's everyone's friend but when do you see Larkin yell at anyone? He's not a leader at all.
The Yzerplan: for the next 2 Franchises that join…we will not have any good players they can take from us. While everyone else is gonna get weaker, we are gonna stay just the same. Which is the same as improving.
Yzerman playing 4dimensional chess while the rest is playing hockey.
This team was never sustainable being 1st in the Atlantic, destined to fight for WC2 and that’s it
Need a culture change and trade Larkin , he isnt leading this team !!!!!
I’m really starting to think that Mclellan lost the room when he made those comments to the media.

Conner Garland was had for a 2nd answer a 3rd pick. He's been lighting it up for Columbus. Meanwhile, Cooper gets moved to the top line. Oof.
Its time to fire yzerman,…doing the same thing and expecting another outcome is the definition of insanity,…

I think there are a lot more injuries than appear.

Great honesty. IMHO, purely a player/roster issue. Not coaching.
Moritz Seider has the highest breakout zone rate of our defense at 69%

Edvinsson- 41%

Faulk-48%
It doesn’t get any better. So our defense outside of one player can’t clear, our offense can’t forcheck or score, and the power play is inept. This roster needs a major shake up from top to bottom. Q. Hughes zone exit rate: 96%.
This team has zero heart or give a shit. Prove me wrong wings, come out and score a goal in elusive 1st period
It takes time… It takes time… At some point you start wondering if it will take so much time for our prospects to pan out that it will require an additional rebuild. It's starting to look like Buffalo's rebuild.
Dead Wings are for real!!!

Kane, Perron, Chiarot, Hamonic, Larkin, Needs TO GO!
Too many wimps
Make Debrincat the CAPTAIN

Make a trade that makes me feel like I did. When we got Paul coffee.

I wanna know what the hell is going on in that locker room
Larkin seems to think just putting the loss behind you will solve it. I think he’s a shit leader and couldn’t motivate a fart. Demoting him might shake him and the team. Sure he’s injured. But when does the injury become a detriment?
I do like Anton Johansson. But there is def nothing coming for the Left side.
Trading the pick with no protections when the east looks like it does this year was totally stupid. I think we should just flip faulk this summer, trade gibson, use whatever assets we get from that and try to make a swing for a long term big piece
They don't have a fighter, so they are afraid of altercation, you can't play like that in constant fear
The blame should be placed on the players. Multi million dollar players shouldn't have to be pushed to do their jobs!! Disgraceful!!
