This ain't a coaching thing: 1) The team has zero depth, no "next man up" during down times, one injury can/does derail the team. 2) Truth, they're playing like we expected in Sept, coming back down to earth – sux, cause playoffs are on the line. 3) Its the players – either you lack heart, or skill, and the ability to know when to apply one or the other when it matters. Philly was flying around last night, hungrier – the players should be ashamed of themselves. The schedule is tough the rest of the way and need them all just to have a chance! Over the summer – team needs, a goal scorer., a pure goal getter – another Bo. Plus defenseman, steady no sexy names, getter done D-man – same with the minor league system. Get deep on the D-man, so when injury or bad play arises, there's someone ready. THEN, they need a rookie break through. Maybe Ritchie takes the next step and becomes a 30 goal scorer, somebody needs to be an offensive threat who is young. Schenn is veteran grit and depth who can pop a few, Barzal is crafty, but we need two guys to be like Bo – a triple scoring threat. Holmstrom and Heinemann are 3rd liners. Barzal, Schenn second liners. Bo first line, he needs two guys to play with – the 2nd line needs Ritchie (or another rookie) to be 25+
why are you two so surprised about the outcome of these games. i said this last June, this team is old, slow and unskilled. Reality has set in, oh BTW your buddy Matt stinks at defense. This GM is not the answer Lou 2.0

While the Ottawa and Montreal games were bad, it was right after they were up 3-1 on the Penguins where the season just fell apart.

I like Roy but it wont surprise me if he is gone after this meltdown.
But lets be honest:
1. Effort and compete are non-negotiable in college let alone the NHL As Larry Bird once said this wont change unless we get 6 heart transplants
2. They have played this way all season even without 4 & 81
3. This core is a country club core engineered by Lou with bad contracts
