I am no Matthews fan, nor a leafs fan. But, Gudas should have been pitched years ago. He wont fight either. Would probably cheer if someone took him out, for good.

Roster wise, this team is done. Paid the 27 1st for Laughton, to sell him this year for a 26 3rd. Asked a 1st for McMann, got CBJs 2nd in 27 and a 4th. 26 1st in on that Minten for Carlo trade, and Minten already looks like the better player. Only Roy brought some return, but it`s a the Avs 27 1st. Their D core is old. Rielly is 32, so is McCabe, Tanev is 36 and injured, OEL is getting 35 in July, and they missed selling him high this deadline. How should that team be better next year?
Matthews will go to an American team this summer. It is too bad that he will be traded for less than he's worth because of the knee (and potential uncertainty around it). Give the C back to Tavares – at least he knew HOW to be a captain. Leafs are in 11th, but only 6 points of the bottom 5. Time to tank…hard…
My kids normally try to imitate the pros, including fighting. A practice I encourage. My kids stand up for themselves and fight dirty, if need be. It is even condoned in the NHL, so why not.
I’m a 4th generation leaf hater from the GTA and this was absolutely DISGUSTING. Every single thing about it from no one sticking up for him to gudas 5 game is sickening especially right after doing the same thing to Crosby this clowns out there trying to ruin careers. When I was a kid playing box lacrosse my captain got butt ended in the groin at the start of one of the quarters it took me about .5 of a second to realize no one was sticking up for him. I was/ still am a goalie I slow jogged to centre choked up and lumber jack swung this kid so bad his helmet blew into several pieces and I ran over him right off the floor. I got 14 games and a $500 fine when i probably should have been charged with assault causing bodily harm maybe even with a weapon. I would have done the same thing to gudas if i was on the ice.
I will always say that for a penalty such as this, the offending player needs to be out as long as the injured player. Seeing players be suspended 3 games and the injured player is back the next game sucks just as much. The NHLPA needs to back this as well. There should be financial penalties and a hearing of peers, not by the sole king of player safety. The captain or alternate captain of each team should have to vote guilty / not guilty with majority rule, after reviewing footage of an penalized play like this with an injury.
Mathews is soft as cotton and hasn’t been in a fight in his life. Maybe that’s why nobody came to his defence, because he’s never reciprocated in kind. Imagine the king’s ransom the Coyotes would have paid for the home state hero. And it’s seldom said that the team, at least up till this year anyway, has been BETTER without him.
Absolutley disgusting man I've never felt so ashamed to be a leafs fan in my life. Since the year we lost to the Caps in 6 I never thought it would end like this. Dont forget the negligence that Brendan Shanahan placed with mitch marner
We still have auston and willy signed for at least 2 more seasons with full no move clauses. Tavares for 3 more years. With that being said it would be difficult to trade them for fair value with low leverage. It may be better to pray for a Keaton Verhoeff to come in next season or 2 to help with the back end offense maybe hit on some free agents or off season trades and just try again these next 2 years. Still a season from hell all in all!

For all the issues and talk of team toughness, the two longest tenured Leafs (Nylander and Rielly) both watched Matthews get taken out and had zero reaction. Thats a massive red flag to what is going on with the team culture, to an already large list of red flags.
They need to get their media under control. Nobody is going to go to war for a franchise that tears u apart and dosent stand up for u in the media. When u have other players talking down on other players and coaches and managers doing the same you get a team that’s only there to collect a paycheck. No one is standing up for these guys so the players don’t fight for the guys sitting next to them. You make a bad play and ur destroyed by every1 in the media who wants to play for that kind of atmosphere
How many times can this team say let’s run it back? Nothing has worked over the years if I was Matheus I’d straight up want out so I could win him staying isn’t going to change anything in the locker room and as a cpt how can you look at those guys in the locker room and even want to play for them he should bail from the leafs. My family loves fighting, violence and hate. Especially when it is real. We encourage our two sons to stand-up for themselves and draw blood on the ice, if need be. No one makes a fool of my boys. Even the NHL looks the other way.
