Episode 36: Islanders Hockey Podcast | Tri-State Hockey Podcast

On Episode 36 of the Tri-State Hockey Podcast, Jonny Lazarus, Mike Rupp, and Arthur Staple break down another wild week across the New York hockey scene, starting with the Islanders’ massive win over the Dallas Stars and the maddening inconsistency that continues to define their playoff push. The guys dive into Ilya Sorokin’s Vezina-worthy season, Matthew Schaefer’s growing impact on the blue line, the difference between New York’s best and worst performances, and whether Sorokin should be getting even more league-wide recognition. They also get into the Islanders’ defensive issues, backup goaltending concerns, Tony DeAngelo’s fit, and more fan voicemail reactions from Long Island. Later, the conversation shifts to the Devils, with a look at their overtime record, leadership questions, and frustrations surrounding a season that still feels like it left points on the table.

  1. Yep they beat Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota and lose to Chicago, Vancouver and Calgary. One thing is clear is that they back check the good teams and not the bad ones. Sorokin has played 3 less games than Vasilevskiy. They are going to have to ride Sorokin if they want to get in. The Islanders don't defend well? Most grade A shots? Islanders 4th in Goals Against. TB is 3rd. When you look at % of shots attempted that are blocked Tampa is 13th the Islanders are 25th.

  2. With Barzal – just don't force a play at the line. Maybe this is an Isles dilemma overall because the puck retrieval game is so bad that I would say if a play is not there, just whip it and go get it but it doesn't happen.

  3. Hey guys love the pod thanks for reacting to my voicemail. Hope you dont think im too soft for getting so invested in this "house money" season but its just too exciting with this last few weeks being a grind every year.

  4. New Jersey definitely looks like a playoff team. If only they can keep Jack Hughes healthy or get some depth centers if only they kept zacha

  5. I was at game 6 in 2021 when beau scored, must have been 100 plus beer cans on the ice! Feels like yesterday that i saw clutter waving his stick around trying to block cans from hitting himself and the team. Hopefully more joyful beer thorwing moments coming in Elmont, LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!

  6. @1:01:01 I disagree. Yes there was that famous 9-0 loss, but they went a large part of that stretch losing in regulation by one goal (2 with the empty net). Remember how many times they went to the third tied, but just couldn’t get that extra goal. The devils have been in 28 1 goal games, for reference, the isles have been 31. I do agree we shouldn’t complain about the otl, but to say they r getting blown out all the time is wrong

  7. Hey guys love the pod cast. On the topic you guys were talking about players complaining to the officials about what players are saying. It reminds me of a scene in Field of Dreams when Moonlight Graham was batting and got brushed back by the pitcher. He said the Ump “hey Ump how bout a warning.” The umpire said to him “yeah kid see that you don’t get killed” 😂
