Do you guys ponder an outside chance of Edmonton ending up as WC2? That would be a bummer… You never know what to expect of Edmonton.
Someone did the math on a social media post, and I haven't verified it, but basically the Avs can go 50/50 the rest of the way and Dallas has to win 75% in regulation to TIE in points. So breathe a little easier…but they can't take the foot off the gas, at all. I think it's for the best since guys are just coming back from injury and they need to get everyone jelling on their lines again.
The Greer play reminded me of the Kane->Kadri hit in the playoffs a few years ago.
The problem is Betman , he’s needs to leave! I’ve been saying it for years , people credit him with growing the NHL but anyone with a hockey sense and a bit of marketing skills would have done as well or better than he did! Let’s not forget this is the same person who kept the NHL in Arizona for what over 20years because the have a huge tv market! That’s awesome but if you can’t stabilize a team there than the tv market is a non issue, but he didn’t see that for 2 decades !
maybe I don't understand the 3 2 1 point system enough, but I want ZERO points for any loss.
Think the other thing to consider with the current playoff format is it can cost jobs
No one cares who you faced. It’s about when you exited. If a team exits the first round, no matter the opponent it could cost coaching staff their jobs.
Look last year Avs being eliminated by the Stars and some of the discourse surrounding the fire CMac and Beddsy fandom.
That’s why this year it’s so important to finish 1st
Why did this pop up in my feed? I stopped watching NHL because of that playoff matchup BS and until they remove it I'll stick to any league that doesn't do it. Some of those euro leagues are way more entertaining than NHL has been in years.
Keep it same way except team with better record gets home ice. Problem solved as Gary won’t change format.
FWIW, you're incorrect about the NBA salary cap going down next year. The announcement you probably saw was that it's going to be 1 million less than what they originally projected it to be, but it's still increasing by 10 million overall from this current season.
How about the first round is the current format, but then the 2nd round, within each conference you re-seed. Then you reseed AGAIN for the final 4, so the conference doesn't matter for the "final four." Each conference gets 2 teams into the final 4, but then the best team gets the number 4 seed. It would be interesting to see some different playoff match-ups, but teams with better records would see the benefit of reseeding for rounds 2 and even 3.
Zach said it best, you are ending the best teams (larger fan bases) right at the start, rather than carrying the viewership to thru the playoffs. Once Avs are out, I 100% am not watching most of the rest of the playoffs. Maybe a game 7 or elimination game and the last games of the final.
The age old nome for Minnesota is The State Of Hockey and Jessi Pierce was a treasure and perhaps one of the best advocates of the game. She is missed already.
10:35 for the 1st round of the nfl playoffs every division winner hosts a playoff game. No division winners have to go on the road. It’s been a big topic of discussion in the nfc bc the south has produced a winner with a losing record multiple times in recent years. While in subsequent years the nfc north produced 2 teams with 14 wins 1 of which had to play in the road bc the division winners get home games and they weren’t one of them. You could’ve picked probably ANY other sport and it would’ve made more sense
