The EVOLVING Alex Tuch contract situation is pointing towards an extension with the Buffalo Sabres
With the Buffalo Sabres racing towards the playoffs and potentially an Atlantic Division crown, the Alex Tuch contract situation has taken a back seat. However, there are reports that the two sides are still communicating and that there was a “budge” on the Sabres end after Jarmo Kekäläinen took over as GM. Two signs that the chances of a contract extension at some point are strong. How much impact has this run made on whether Tuch stays? It can only increase the chance of a deal getting done and ideally on a bit of a discount. With more reports that the salary cap is going up to as much as $130 million in the next five years, the environment to give Tuch a deal north of $10 million per year on a long-term deal is set up for the Sabres. A deal of that level would be roughly the same as Josh Norris’ current deal by percentage of the cap.
Plus, who else the Sabres will have to make decisions on after the season includes Zach Benson, Peyton Krebs, and Michael Kesselring who are all restricted free agents. They’ll also have to make a call on unrestricted free agents Beck Malenstyn and Logan Stanley. Who are the right guys to prioritize?

Good he's a big part of the team
Hes not worth 10 mill
I disagree with a lot you had to talk about. Who fills these rolls for these guys that you say should walk???? Beck 100% needs to stay and should be paid. He’s a great asset to the 4th line.
why would you give up assets to get Thomas when you can get tuch for free. Thats just bad player management. Sure Thomas is a bit younger and a bit cheaper but you you have to look at the assets too. Why not package someone like Norris or Power to get Thomas and you can have Thomas and Tuch. there are some players on the team that are making more money than what they contribute. Norris is good when hes playing but he plays sub 50 games a year. Power has done better this year but not worth 8.5m, hes more of a 4-5m. Use one of those players to go after Thomas, then you can have both.
I just don't want to sacrifice keeping a winning team together to pay this guy. If we can dump the Greenway contract to make room I'm down
Cap: can they modify the contracts to make the Cap this year and hold the team together? Lower the salaries for 26/27 but raise them to compensate in 27/28 and beyond when the cap goes up to make up for the loss in 26/27? So if you sign Tuch at 10 for 6yrs (hypothetically), he takes 8 in 26/27, 12 in 27/28 (to cover the loss) and then roll 10's the next 4? Is that do-able?
Tuch is a Swiss army knife . Total keeper, in my opinion. Yes, even at 10 mill-ish. I believe he's our captain without the C on his jersey. Total team guy.
If Connor McGovern can take a slightly reduced salary to stay with the team so can Tuch. Otherwise so long. Too many other good YOUNG players to pay like Malenstyn and even Stanley!
Trade Greenway & Kesselring. Kesselring doesn't fit. Greenway is way too injured & slow.
Tuch is one of the most underrated players the Sabres have, and thats why he is going for the bank. He knows he is worth that. His skating is great (if he lost a step, then how is he keeping well ahead of the chasers on his SHGs? They start off as 2 strides ahead, time he gets to the goalie he is 3 strides ahead. He has been the most consistent player the sabres have had. Yes he had some slow years to start, then came around….but so have Dahlin and Thompson. He has far less giveaways than Dahlin, and maybe on par with Thompson. He will be there for the playoffs. He is that dominant.
Nothing has changed.
Alex Tuch remains unsigned.
That's the beauty of a contract. It's 0% signed or 100% signed. You can't be 50% signed.
Tech is only worth a 5 year contract anything over that i do t want him
5 years x 9.5 should be the absolute maximum. He's only going downhill from here..
That's a tough one to decide. If u sign him for big money and term, you look great if he ages well, if not then after few seasons you are stuck with overpaid underachieving frwd. Good luck Jarmo.
We only have 13m in cap space. That could be Tuch and Krebs. So we woisl need to move another 7m off the books for Benson and Malanstyn.
If i'm the Sabres, I tell Alex if he wants $10M, it's only for a 4 yrs deal.
If not, let him walk.
8 years 8.9 million per. get it done terry. front load it.🦬i have no idea what im talking about or to who, but terry get this done
Maybe Josh Allen will take another cut so we can sign Tuck lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alex Tuch v Jack Eichel:
Alex Tuch is a better goal scorer. Alex Tuch is better at preventing goals.
Alex Tuch is a better penalty killer.
Jack Eichel is a better passer.
Jack Eichel is a better possession player.
Jack Eichel is a better power play player.
When you add in Krebs, Ostland, and Greenway… we won that trade in spades. Tuch is as a good a player as Eichel all by himself. He is getting $11 million per if he wants it. 32 teams would be happy to have Alex Tuch.
So we get rid of all team toughness in off-season. Then we get to see tage and tuch having to risk the season by dropping mitts to stand up for team. Oh wait…ostlund will take care of business.
Pay that man his money
Robert Thomas is not better than Alex Tuck bro. The reason the blues are trading him is because he’s fat and lazy doesn’t work out that much and we can’t afford them anyways because Greenway is still on the team playing 33 games of one single goal and -9.
What did Kesselring say on social media???
should have some money taken off for that careless penalty against the Ducks.
Casual observer!
I love malenstyn and hope he sticks around. Him tuch and benson should be kept if we want another strong season next year
TERM seems to be the issue with Tuch. 4 years yes…@9-10 million ok. More than that? Come on now… Just cannot do it
The smart move is to let him walk. But I love Alex tuch so much that I wouldn’t mind if they gave him a big contract. I wouldn’t pay him I would let him walk and make room for hele and jiri but again he’s one of my all time favorite players I wouldn’t mind if they signed him
