Another shining example of why a goalie should stay at the net.
All I see (in 2026) is 100% goal tender interference. Contest it, no goal. But Devils do like to find ways to lose games.

as someone who played goalie in adult leagues amateur player, I would rather have a shutout then a goal just saying.
With a two goal lead…why not? If it’s only a one goal lead, no chance he’s forcing that. Especially with a shutout in the line.

I've seen much worse: last season's last round in Finland. The home team Kärpät is maybe the richest club in Finland and has won seven titles in this century. And they hadn't missed playoffs even once during that timeframe. After a nightmare season, they needed to win the last game of regular season
The opponent was IFK Helsinki, another giant. They needed to win in regulation to reach the fourth place in table and clinch first round bye in playoffs.
One team needs to win while the other needs to win in regulation. And so it happens that the game is tied at 1-1 when time is running out. IFK of course pulls their goalie because they need the goal. What an opportunity: if Kärpät can score an empty-netter, they advance to the post-season! (If neither team scores, Kärpät needs to win in overtime.)
With 30 seconds remaining, the puck rolls to Kärpät's goalie. He decides that he is going to be the hero! He lines up and shoots. The shot fails completely! The puck falls to an IFK player in front of Kärpät's wide-open net. IFK scores an easy goal and gets the regulation win they needed. In the meanwhile, Kärpät's playoff streak is over. Insane drama!

Who cares? This is a game. It’s supposed to be fun. He tried. They still won.
