  1. Maybe a bit high now but my question is that is this contract still considered high when/if the cap hit goes up by 3.5-5mil?or does this look more like a 3.5-4.1 mil contract then?

  2. As a pens fan, this is exactly what Horny deserves. With Cap going up in the future it is also to the advantage of the pens to sign him for a longer deal at this price. its all cherries in the penguin's pacman game

  3. id say 5 years is likely too long in regards to term, 2 or 3 years wouldve made more sense, and then reassess hornqvists value after that.

  4. At 5.3mil/season thats a nice hometown discount that he took. He must definitely want to stay in Pittsburgh. I thought he would get taken up for 6-7mil/season and the Pens wouldn't be able to match that. He's the best in the league at what he does. Getting in front of the opponents goalie and driving everybody crazy. No problem with the 5yrs either, there are around half a dozen other similar players his age who have signed for more money and 5yrs

  5. Can the argument be made that both the Penguins and Nashville benefited from that trade. Both got what they wanted. Yes, Neal's numbers went down compared to his production in Pittsburgh, but I have a feeling that's more due to not being with Malkin/Crosby than Neal's talent. He's on pace for 30-35 goals this year for Vegas, which is only slightly higher than his pace in Nashville.

  6. ”This is the city I want to be in and I’m really happy to stay here five more years,” Hornqvist said. Happy for him, he's earned it by how hard he plays, he's a warrior.

  7. I don’t understand why people are so concerned about the future. It’s win NOW mode for the penguins. If I was JR’s position and my team has the chance to win 3 cups in 3 years and possibly even longer, I’m sure as hell going for it and signing guys like Hornqvist solidify that.

  8. I still don't,agree with Vegas taking on 40 per cent ot 50 per cent of brassard contract. Still think it's wrong . shouldn't be more then 25 percent

  9. Horney does indeed bring grit and maybe more talent than most think….agree though that 5 years is a bit risky… would have preferred 3 years…his style of play will lead to more time on i.r. as he ages….on another note; lets hope Reeves lack of presence does not lead to more runs at players and injuries.. while he did not have much pt, his presence on the bench may have stifled some otherwise runs at stars that were occurring the year before… he was also a great locker room chemistry guy that will be missed…

  10. They should go all in so I think this is a good signing even though it most likely will be a bad contract in 3 years

  11. I'm alright with the signing, but I have to ask if that means more of the so-called "baby Pens" may have to find other places to get a chance to play? Simon and Aston-Reese are just too good to stay as 4th liners, especially when you have guys like Sheary, Guentzel, Rust, Kuhnhackl and Rowney competing for limited roster spots. Us Caps fans can only dream of having the forward depth you Pens have. Hopefully, it plays out for you guys to balance the playing time of all those guys.

  12. I always thought Hornqvist was underrated and I too questioned David Poile when he made that move that sent Hornqvist to Pittsburgh. Hornqvist IMO has earned this contract for a guy who was "Mr. Irrelevant" when he was the last pick of the 2005 draft.

  13. Out of all the trades I think Nashville got the best deal picking up Hartman for nothing. Not a rental and young. Wait and see what he can do.

  14. Neal was playing like a total goon in pittsburgh (and not in the good way), he needed to get traded to wake up and good on him because he did.

  15. Being a Pens fan, I really believe that this is a very good move because Hornqvist scores most of his goals in front of the net and all teams need someone who score the "garbage" goals from time to time. Detroit had Thomas Holmstrom who was the same type of player for many years and he was very valuable to the Red Wings during their Stanley Cup years.

  16. Pens fan here, TOTALLY THRILLED that Horny re-upped, because we all thought he would leave via free agency. The Pens totally changed when Horny got here… We needed a net-front presence, and he is one of the Top-5 best in the league at that…
