I am not buying that we make the playoffs. And even if we do, what would the point be? We are likely to get outplayed in the playoffs because we are not playoff style physical team and don't have the creative and high-end players to generate scoring when there is no space given in the playoffs. Botterill really needs to look at beyond this season and the long term outlook. The vets should be traded because they don't fit the core of this team. In year 5 of the team, a 35 year old Eberle has been our best forward. And he has 31 points in 47 games. To me, that is more telling than anything else. A player, the team acquired in the expansion draft, is our top forward when we have had 2 x top-4 draft picks, 2 x top-8 draft picks.
I understand the positivity you guys provide, but Botterill needs to be looked and asked about the big picture. "Making the playoffs" should never be a goal. It's just a short term milestone. Our management is simply not willing to choose a direction. Whether that is on ownership or management or both, they need to sort that out first before even think of mentioning "playoffs".

I’m so tired of hearing we’re going to make the playoffs. I don’t want to the wild card. I don’t want to be the first round and out team. I want us to sell our vets who are making consistent mistakes and anyone who is comfortable being this terrible or mediocre. Our young guys want to play.
Okay the way I look at it there is 5 teams in the west that locked playoffs Vegas, Minnesota, Dallas, Edmonton, and Colorado that leaves 3 spots San Jose looks tough Anheim and Utah are the teams we need to pass

I'm actually a little surprised at the positivity, especially from RJ. I just don't see the benefit in squeaking into the playoffs and getting smoked in the first round. We miss out on a high draft pick, let our UFAs walk free and we are back to square 1 next year. Sure, there are financial benefits in the short term, but I feel that is where the positives end. For the long term success of the franchise, I am really hoping to see the title "Time to panic" on next week's episode.
The Islanders get no respect !!! I think you guys a delusional, this Kraken team is not a playoff team. They had a really good stretch because then were getting outstanding goaltending for 3 weeks. Nashville will be ahead of them soon. The vets look hardly interested.

Making the playoffs should always be the main goal of any team. Anything can happen in the playoffs, so I’d rather us routinely get there and see what happens. Playoff experience is also invaluable to developing players. Consistently making the playoffs makes it easier to attract better players too. The best free agents are not going to want to come here over a more established or contending team.
I really hope we have Melanson back and soon. His energy was great and I want to see the hard work he's put into his game to be rewarded. He's a huge boost to the team and to the team's vibes. But, yeah, we can't afford to lose anyone on waivers. I hope we get a good trade that lets us tighten the roster up and bring him back as part of the roster, not just an injury replacement.
Oleksiak needs to be traded ASAP. Time to move the older UFA’s.

Joey Daccord should have played vs Devils and Utah. He sat too long after the Carolina game being Gruby played vs Rangers.
I don’t even care that Stephenson is one of our top scorers (not really a Herculean feat on this team), that dude is unwatchable.
on the shorthanded goals – what more evidence do you need to demonstrate the core group of players need to be jettisoned. The coaches are doing their job, the veteran players are not executing, and they need to (finally) be held accountable. Ship them out, use the upcoming deadline to purge the core. Sick of seeing same patterns year after year.
