  1. Jeesh, he picked that corner so deliberately. Low and far, quick and deadly; deadly accurate.

I'm going on a rant here but goalies today aren't even looking at where the shots go because it's probably too fast. Back in the day, you had to slap the puck to get it to 80+ mph but now players with the composite sticks can whip it to those speeds and they are so close to the net, meaning less time to react henceforth the new technique of simply dropping to your knees and making yourself look big and hope it hits you.

Goalies are statistically better today than they were back say, 20-25 years ago, but are they really more athletic? The closest goalie I can compare to modern day style is Patrick Roy with his butterfly technique but some of the most proficient goalies who stood tall and was still effective especially down low were guys like Bill Ranford, Grant Fuhr and Kirk McLean. Nets haven't increased in size and a few inches here and there from the person's height isn't going to cover anymore of the net, it's the equipment that's given them the edge. Ranford was 5'11, McLean was 6'0 or 6'1 but if they saw the shot, they could kick them out with the best of them.

I'd take guys in the prime like Ranford, McLean, Ritcher, Roy over any of the goalies today, if equipment were equal.
