The Detroit Red Wings struggles at 5v5 continued as they lose 5-2 in Carolina. Both teams had a multitude of opportunities but only the Hurricanes managed to capitalize. Patrick Kane and Simon Edvinsson were the teams only goal scorers. After the game Todd McLellan spoke about the lack of offense from the rest of the lineup. #LGRW

    This team needs a forward that can produce goals. We have 4 forwards worth anything on this roster. A top line winger with 13 points and Copp as a 2C is no good.

    Detroit needs a star nr 2 center bad this deadline, I can see us slipping out of a playoff spot if nothing is done.

    Detroit is 27th in 5 on 5 scoring, looking the playoff hopeful teams around us, Washington 2nd, Buffalo is 3rd, Tampa 4th, Pittsburgh 6th, Montreal 7th, Carolina 9th, Ottawa 11th, Boston 12th, Columbus 14th. It's crazy how bad Detroit is compared to ALL of it's potential playoff opponents.

    If players like Rasmussen and Soderbloom aren’t scoring they have to get physical and start making their defense pay a price to soften them up for the top lines. If Rasmussen, Soderbloom, Appleton, Comlher and Copp don’t get 5 checks a game a piece they would sit the next game simple as that.

    When a coach has to shock or dump fear at individuals to engage with a sense of urgency gets ridiculously tiresome. Makes me sick.

    Why should Yzerman dump money into skilled players when the supporting cast is weak slow and ineffectual. I'd clean the slate and dump the lot of em.

    Like I said a month ago, we will lose every season series to eastern playoff team and be knocked out of contention. Just got bumped again by isles. Boston and Montreal are next .but now we going west good luck . Y would we play Talbot knowing this is a season tie breaker to Carolina. Pit buff isles Carolina and soon Boston Montreal TB is all that's left

    “Expect a win” – they can’t win back to back games at all and have zero depth. I expect them to collapse. AGAIN. They don’t do enough to convince me in numerous areas. This may be the worse collapse yet.

    Still don't have 2nd line center, still don't have a legit 3rd dman, end of story. This is actually the weakest year for the east with Florida not in it, thats why there's a log jam, and with all due respect to shine bringing him up instills no fear in the vets. When copp said post the first practice from the break that the vets were taking frustration out on the prospects it was very telling of how comfortable the vets are. Id dump nearly all these vets and draft picks for a legit 2c but nobody is gonna want these bums.

    Also when mclellen said they look like a jv high-school team coming back from the break that was also telling. They had 3 weeks off and they still suck after 2 games, shouldve lost innottawa had it not been for gibson, and had absolutely no compete in this Carolina game, and the games are not going to get easier. I would not be surprised if this team doesn't make the playoffs if this kind of play continues. Id bring up danielson regardless of his flaws and keep shine play soderblom and bench 3 vets, they need to be put on blast for this lack of engagement.

    I felt that Carolina was too fast and that we won’t beat them without an enforcer or SOMEBODY step up and kronwall them. That’s the only thing that stops speed is physical play and we refuse to do it

    Is this team really any better than any other Red Wings team from the past three years? The only reason this team is where they are at is Gibson. If he keeps playing well and we still choke I’d say this team is actually getting worse.

    The weak 5 v. 5 offense has been there all season. McLellan is right about the empty ‘ jerseys’. Some Wings forwards contribute close to nothing. I could see another annual March collapse if Yzerman does nothing meaningful for the deadline. Dom Shine looks better than several other Wings forwards. Appleton has proved to be yet another Stiff they’ve acquired.

    I looked at their remaining schedule….I see this team coming up just short again. They can’t clear the zone when they need to, can’t win a face off, pass when they should shoot, and don’t possess the puck. Just keep dumping it in and trying to forecheck and gain possession. Even if they get Pettersson, he’s not gonna be the savior

    Referring to the empty sweaters AKA just jerseys why isn't JVR mentioned?
    So many were raving about him before. The last ten games 1 goal and minus 5 including minus 3 against Carolina.

    Game is at 2 p.m. so they can play it at prime time in Europe. Not sure why we are catering to a pretty small NSH/DET fan base but whatever, NHL doing NHL things.
