At the Imola circuit formerly known as the San Marino Grand Prix, Ferrari achieved a memorable 1-2 finish. Didier Pironi triumphantly crossed the finish line ahead of his fellow Ferrari driver, Gilles Villeneuve, clinching a victory that was both controversial and filled with high-stakes drama.

  1. Io ero presente alla gara ! Per colpa di Pironi che non rispetto’ la decisione del team inizio l’odio da parte di Villenevue ne confronti del Francese traditore.
    L’unica volta che Forghieri non era presente ai box ! Da lì finisce la storia di due grandi piloti !

  2. Ferrari had ordered both drivers to slow down. Villeneuve interpreted this as an order to maintain position on the track; Pironi did not and thus overtook Villeneuve on the final lap, infuriating the Canadian to the point that he vowed never to speak to Pironi again. Pironi's pass on Villeneuve is considered to be one of the most controversial moments in Formula One. Villeneuve would lose his life in a crash during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix two weeks later.

    Villeneuve interpreted it as "Hold position"

    Pironi interpreted it as "Race, but don't overdrive and crash each other out."

    Gilles would die at Zolder, and Didier would smash both of his legs at Hockenheim, I believe. Pironi's two kids would be named "Gilles" and "Didier"

    Great battle though and no DRS.

  7. Dizem que Roland Ratzenberg, morreu porque o carro perdeu a asa dianteira e ficou sem controle,como o Villeneuve pilotou na mesma pista, passou pela mesma curva do acidente,com sua Ferrari sem a asa dianteira sendo mais rápido que o Pirroni.
