Don’t doubt Fraser Minten he is also a very underrated rookie, he has the same amount of points as Sourdif, a +11 and is able to manage a lot of ice time.

Sourdif’s skating style is so odd. It looks like he’s way too upright, and you’re right about the short strides. If it works it works though
WIsh he didn't punch people in the back of the head as often as he does in a scrap, but he skates, and plays Hockey like a beauty, so it's hard to really knock the kid.
now if only we could make our special teams work…
When the Capitals signed Protas to a 5 year deal, I liked it. I thought he'd be a solid bottom 6 winger that we could trust on the PK, and that he'd slide over to center when Dowd left. Turns out we got a legit top line winger.
When the Capitals traded for Sourdif, I liked it. I had the same expectation of him as a solid bottom 6 winger that we could trust on the PK, and that he'd slide over to center when Dowd left, because it's clear Protas isn't doing that. He's a very different player from Protas – just have them stand side to side and you'll see. It looks like we might have a top 6 player. But when Dubois comes back, I guess he slides down to fill the gaping hole we have at 3C because we refuse to move on from Hendrix Lapierre? We've got good enough depth at wing that our 3C can still have excellent players on his wings.
I'm happy that I keep being wrong about potential replacements for Nic Dowd. Patrick Thomas is the next guy I have tagged as a potential Nic Dowd replacement at 4C. He's not a third round pick like Sourdif and Protas. He was a 4th round pick, so he's another guy who doesn't seem like he has the upside to be a top 6 player. Maybe Patrick Thomas can exceed my expectations 😉

Funny you mention caps scouting. Sourdif single-handedly stopped the Hershey bears from threepeating while caps GMs were in the building. That definitely caught their eye and knew they had to have him.
As Panthers fan, I hated seeing him get traded, but, there was a log jam.
I went to a Caps – Lightning game in October and I didn’t know who he was but he had the it factor and grabbed my attention even though he was playing in the bottom 6, very excited to see him continue to grow

it was my first time at the capital one arena when he got this hatty. I've been a fan for 25 years and going to a winning home game is such a great memory to have. I wish tickets were affordable.

If the caps want to trade for one of your players take a second look because they see something you absolutely dont.
In the caps system Sourdif is the true heir apparent to Nic Dowd, another sick puppy who’s incredibly responsible. A couple seasons ago 90% of Dowd’s starts were in the defensive zone and he still stayed +4 on the season which is just incredible. So so happy we picked him up we wouldnt be in a horrific spot without him
