Even the announcers freaked over this ‘missed call’

We’ll talk last night’s Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Redwings game which saw a… questionable… missed call. We’ll talk all that and more on today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. Everyone freaking out about this is silly. This kinda thing happens 100 times a game uncalled. Ghost clearly sold anyways. Not even news worthy.

  2. I never get that worked up when my team loses due to a bad call, because sometimes they win due to a bad call. Although I agree with Eck…it was a bit a dive.

  3. Why on earth would ghost give up prime defensive positioning just to try and "sell" a penalty that may or may not get called? I think it's ridiculous to think that he tried to sell something here especially since it was at the expense of his defensive positioning in front of the goal. I think the far simpler explanation is that the cross check was harder than it looked, or ghost didn't anticipate the contact. Either way, it should have been a penalty.

  4. I've played hockey for 15 years, and have watched even more. Andrew Copp is not an imposing brute. That is a routine nudge, nothing more. It's happened to me countless times, I've never been knocked down. If you want this to be called a cross-check, each NHL game would basically be one long power play. Lesson of the day: don't flop.

  5. There are two questions that have to be asked: 1) is it is a penalty? 2) is it a penalty that should be called in OT?

I think the answers are “no” and “hell no”. Even if you think it’s a penalty, it’s way too soft to call in OT. I don’t even think you call that for game management purposes. The defender chose to protect the slot passively and that’s on him. I hope he got called into the coach’s office for that one.

  6. This is the right take. Be stronger on your skates if you are defending the front of the net, or you’re going to get bullied like Ghost did here. Andrew Copp is my GOAT.

  7. Copp softly nudged him for position and Ghost flopped. Copp actually stopped just a second before he gave him the push. The refs know this.

  8. crosscheks in front of the net have always been awkard. Like, technically. Any cross check is a penalty…but since we've allowed it, it's like a judgement call on how hard? It's just an awkward rule/play that has always existed. Usually the d-men give it way harder than that.

  9. Carolina scored on a soft call on Raymond. Then they complain when their guy gets shoved in front of the net. Net battles are always gonna have more wiggle room with what gets called, it’s a net battle

  10. You don’t give a “makeup” call that blatantly cost one team the game. Regardless if he milked it, it leaves him wide open on the goalies doorstep.. not to mention there were several other blown bad calls throughout that game
