What is the No. 1 reason for Maple Leafs’ turnaround?

TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss Connor McDavid’s 19-game point streak and the implications it’s having for the Oilers and could have for Canada at the Olympics, what the keys have been to the Maple Leafs turning around their season, the strong play of Juraj Slafkovský for the Habs, and the Blue Jackets’ coaching change.

  1. Still only 4 regulation loses for the Avs playing their 3rd string goalie in the OT loss. MacK gave it to the Leafs in OT on a silver platter.

  2. 3:08 The turn around is easy to explain! Berube told the leafs if they don’t get going they’l be summoned to work for TSN like many former Maple Leafs.

  3. I think it's much simpler then that… i truly believe when Marner left and they didn't go and sign another top line guy it "hurt matthews" like in the mind. And when he's not playing well the team won't play well. I think he looked at it as well were not good enough by just picking up a bunch of 4th liners and losing Marner. However I believe lately he's decided he's going to play despite it. And he's seen how the team can come together and win so he believes more. I truly believe it comes back to Marner and Matthew's.

  4. I never stopped believing this team is already good team. The only difference between last year's team and this year's team is they lost marner and gained depth. (And a bunch of injuries) that's really it. There was no reason they should have been playing that bad i knew for a fact they would figure it out. It just takes a while. Matthew's was always used to throwing it to marner and marner bringing it into the zone and making that first pass. Now he either has to do it or someone else who.might not be as good. I believe there was also a learning curve for these guys to essentially learn how to play without marner. Marner whether people want to admit it or not was such a HUGE piece of this teams identity. He touched touched just about every piece of the leafs game. Pp he essentially ran the PP they would dp that drop pass to him to enter the zone for them. ,PK, Empty net situations offensively and defensively. If they needed a forwardnto play defence. He did it. He was the spark plug on about everything the leafs did. Losing that after like 8 seasons there's gunna be a learning curve.

  5. Can't believe Button has any job in hockey…The Leafs had good goaltending last year and for the most part has had decent goaltending this year. The turn around is because Matthews is playing like Matthews.

  6. There's no real preseason, anymore. October is preseason. By mid-late December, you know what your team is really like.
