One of the weirdest stories in NHL lore, is the story of the time, the Florida Panthers attempted to draft Alex Ovechkin in the Ninth Round of the 2003 NHL Draft. The story includes some wacky characters: specifically Florida Panthers owner, Alan Cohen. Who attempted to argue with the NHL, that Alex Ovechkin was eligible to be drafted, if you counted leap years!
