Huge NHL Trade – Oilers Trade Ryan McLeod to Sabres for Matt Savoie

Huge NHL Trade – Oilers Trade Ryan McLeod to Sabres for Matt Savoie

we have another NHL trade to discuss and this one’s a doozy between the Oilers and the Sabers Ryan mcclouds on his way to Buffalo we discuss the details and what it means for both clubs coming up next so welcome back to another video here at topshelf hawy as I mentioned we have another NHL trade to discuss and this one is a bit of a doozy certainly a bigger than the one we saw earlier today with Winnipeg getting Dylan Coughlin uh the Edon Oilers and the Buffalo Sabers have hooked up on a trade uh so the Oilers send Ryan McLoud who’s uh making $2.1 million for another season to the Buffalo Sabers in exchange for Matt seavoy yep that’s right you heard that right so Matt Ryan McLoud a good player don’t get me wrong uh but the Oilers this is a slam dunk for Edmonton um I think they like McLoud I think the word was they were going to consider moving them as much as they like what he brings and you know good energy guy well-liked teammate always smiling very positive there’s there’s lots of good things I like about Ryman Cloud he’s an easy guy to cheer for but at the same time like uh he’s one of those guys that skates like the win but has a hard time finishing doesn’t score as nearly as much as he showed he did get a few big goals for the Oilers in the playoffs but it just sometimes leaves you wanting more um so he is 24 years old soon to be 25 he be 25 when training camp kicks around in September he was a second round pick in 2018 he started getting a bit of an NHL opportunity pretty much right away um saw like some games that year and then he kind of just been building upon it from there um he put up 12 goals to 30 points this past season mostly in a you know bottom six center role uh occasionally moved up but generally speaking he’s you know a 4C sometimes a 3C uh and put up four goals in 24 playoff games uh going to the Stanley Cup Final with Edmonton he’s got great size he’s a tall kid 6’3 200 lb like I said he skates like to win really fast uh but he’s just one of those guys who has the feet but he doesn’t have the hands to keep up so he just kind of doesn’t finish as much as he should kind of similar to Conor Brown um you know similar type of guy except Brown does some things obviously a little bit better in things than McLoud does but you know kind of the same concept you know really fast doesn’t finish uh but they get ofo and now also included in this let me forget here Tyler Tulio also going to Buffalo with McLoud he’s a 23-year-old right winger this is just a depth move this is a contract Purge on Edmonton’s side uh they take him he’s got two years of AHL experience he was a 2025th rounder Tad on a small side and career Hive so far 26 points in the American Hockey League not trending at 23 years old with all those stats of likely becoming an NHL player but he’s included uh but Matthew seavo made his NHL debut towards the end of this past season uh with the Sabres he got one game in uh he was a ninth overall pick in 2022 at that point when he was drafted he had back-to-back 90 plus Point campaigns in junior uh this past year in junior uh he of course the team he was with was with the Winnipeg ice of course they moved to Washington State to was it called W wachi and then he get traded to musja um went on to play with the rest of the season with the Musa Warriors won the Hockey League Championship got to play in the Memorial Cup that’s a great experience for him uh and you know got to walk away with some great experience a League Championship under his belt fit really well and played well in the Memorial Cup as well got a handful of games in the American Hockey League at the end of the season after all that he goes on to to join the Sabers goes to Rochester gets five or six games and then made it NHL debut right at the end of the season and really like it was a heck of a year for seavoy he’s ready to turn pro he’s 20 years old um theoretically I you know like he he’s a player that can probably I think he can jump into the Oilers lineup next year with all the depth moves they made though maybe they want him to spend some time in the AHL uh full campaign for hard to say but at the end of the day his ceiling is way higher than mcclouds like SEO has long-term top six potential for sure um yeah great you know just a really talented offensive player uh he’s had a chance to play for Canada at World Juniors um he’s a little smaller 59 175 but he’s uh hasn’t let it stop him so far I mean he some smaller players can certainly make it he might end up being more of a Winger than a center uh he’s played both uh to me this is just a fantastic grab for Ebon with all the moves they’ve made they could certainly use a little bit of cap flexibility so they get that they shed the 2.1 million seavoy on his entry level contract will obviously be making less if he’s on the NHL roster if he’s not then they if he’s in the American Hockey League next year um then they get even more flexibility but they get themselves a really great Prospect because I mean over time when you’re winning and you’re you’re not going to pick high it’s hard to really keep the prospect pool um built up and this is a great way to do it if you can make trades like this so I know Kevin Adams I know I’ve kind of been on them a little bit myself when I’ve talked about Buffalo recently saying they haven’t really done a lot last offseason they didn’t really do much of anything look what happened they didn’t take that step forward again and this year so far it’s been made a couple little moves like it’s not like they haven’t done anything but it hasn’t been anything really much significance like you’re they’re largely the same team uh and then now they do this like I said mccloud’s good like it’s not that I don’t like McLoud but I wouldn’t have given up Matt seavoy for him um you know they’ve already got um at least three centerman that could theoretically play ahead of McLoud I mean you know that Thompson and cousins are going to be your top two you’ve got uh Payton Krebs who I I wonder if maybe they trade KBS now to in a separate deal uh cuz he was going to he was typically been a bottom six center do they want both of them in the bottom six roll I don’t know anyways it just kind of creates a it’s just a weird scenario like McLoud is a good player bring some good experience to Buffalo not that I don’t like him I just never would have given up a top 10 pick from two years ago like Matt seavoy seavo is high-end capability here is just uh through the roof compared to what mccloud’s potential is I don’t know that Ryman Cloud will ever be more than a number three Center who was decent defensively and yeah the skating will keep him probably playing in the league a long time but offensively it’s just not not super strong so yeah so we’ll see what happens here and how this works out for both sides but this is a fantastic deal for the Edmonton Oilers and I’m not sure what Kevin Adams and the Sabers are thinking on this one uh they just gave away um a high-end Prospect for a third line play and I just never would have done that in a million years so I think I can safely say right now that the Oilers probably win this this trade no matter what because even if seavoy doesn’t turn out to be the player that we think he’s going to be they get that valuable CS face back for right now they’re trying to win a Stanley Cup they are you can’t get any closer than what they were last year losing in game seven of the final by one goal um like you can’t you can’t get any closer so you know to me this deal makes a lot of sense for Edmonton to do and they get a great player back and the Sabers just I don’t know is there any hope are they going to be able to take this step forward next year I know uh one of the analytics people I follow on Twitter uh J fres put out his first projection of uh the standings for next year based on all the trades and uh signings through free agency up until yesterday and he had the Sabers missing again uh he had the Sabers ranked uh I think in the Atlantic they were I think seventh with Detroit and Ottawa both finishing ahead of them and actually with otwa jumping ahead of both of them so me not that that model is perfect and it’s not exact but it’s it’s it’s really historically long as he’s been doing it it’s one of the more accurate models but none of them are perfect out there so anyways interesting trade I think the Oilers win this one hands down let me know what you think in the comments we’ll discuss further if you’re new to the channel 1. I'm going to love watching the Oilers come up short again this year AND watching Toronto get eliminated in the first round again. This season can't come fast enough

  2. For the oilers this is fantastic. Savoie is on a 3 year entry level contract so that’s less than a million on the oilers books and they can grow him in Bakersfield. The oilers have so much depth right now there’s no rush to call him up. They could play him in the minors for a bit and see how it goes.

  3. Sometimes players don't turn into productive players…… don't be quick to judge Buffalo . LA is still waiting on ALEX TURCOTTE .

  4. Savoie has 1 game in the NHL, then he was sent back to the minors. He's 5'9" and 179lbs. he better be fast. Buffalo could use a third line center with speed and that's what they got, cost them Savoie, eh. Savoie could be an all star in the AHL. Maybe the NHL but no guarantees.

  5. You’ve yet to mention and I am more than halfway through your video that Savoie is severely injury prone dude never starts a season and I think this is the first year. He finished one.

  6. The Sabre's have enough pipsqueak's stockpiled in their pipeline. Despite a high draft status, Savoie has shown absolutely nothing in the 2 years since he was drafted, Win for Buffalo, imo

  7. I feel like it sucks now but it makes sense cause buffalo has TOO many skilled high end offensive prospects and needs a size pk specialist on their bottom 6, for savoie their is no room for him in buffalos top 6 future

  8. Ok…….Adams can be fired now. Buffalo traded a top tier prospect for a dude who scores 12 goals a season.

I am disgusted by this trade

  9. "He's ready to turn pro" lol absolutely fucking not. Hes tiny and hasnt impressed last few years. You're overselling it so hard

  10. Cloudy is a great kid! Had him in the box with me in Saginaw in Jr's ! He'll be better in Buffalo as He'll get more T.O.I. Good trade for Buffalo

  11. 🥳PLAY LA BAMBA BAYBEEEE 🥳as an Oilers fan I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!YAASSSSSSSSS BUFFALO TAKE THIS NON SCORING, NON PUCK BATTLE WINNING, NON DOING ANYTHING SOFT STICK OF BUTTER BUFFALO BUTTER STICK MCLEOD WOOO HOOOOOO !!!!!!!!! ONLY OILERS FANS KNOW THE PAIN OF WATCHING MCLEOD!!!!!!!🥳🥳🥳

  12. The Summer from Hell continues for Buffalo. We traded #9 pick and a 2nd rounder for McLeod and Melenstyn.

  13. I think it's a great trade. Buffalo has many of the same type of small skilled forwards. And if you gotta overpay a little bit to get what you want, so be it besides Buffalo Needed a number 3 Line center. Yeah, he doesn't finish a gas stats. What the video says, but I don't expect the guy to score 60 goals either.

  14. The Sabres are literally 20+ deep in prospects without Savoie, plus they have younger guys like Quinn, Peterka, Benson, and even Cozens is only 23. Plus, they have 10 picks in the 2025 draft as of now. Savoie can be replaced. Overpayment? Absolutely, but the Sabres need to improve the team now, which fans have been demanding. Adams has definitely improved the bottom-6, which was a necessity. There could still be a trade or two yet to come – the season doesn't start tomorrow.

  15. The trade was canceled hours later. Savoie's GF is studying to be a yoga instructor in Buffalo.

  16. This bugs me Savoie and Geekie got traded 2 former Winnipeg ice.
And we could have moved Mcgroarty in a deal for them+.
    Or a player on roster.

  17. Kevyn Adams is black-balled. Other GMs don’t return his phone calls. He has to overpay to do anything. At least Buffalo got a 3C. I like Savoie a lot, but he’s not going to be ready for a while. He’s really small, going to take a few seasons in the AHL for him to get bigger and learn.

  18. Hey Sabre fans! Have you guys got any more 1st round picks you'd like to dump off your team? Just wondering. Signed: 31 other NHL teams.

  19. Sabres are planning a 14th year without making the playoffs and invested in a 15th, 16th and 17th unbeatable playoff drought.

  20. McLeod might be a good addition for the Sabres, but for Savoie Sabres should have much more than just McLeod. At least second NHLer (like a Janmark)!
