This Trade just SHOCKED the NHL…

the Edmonton Oilers and the Buffalo Sabers just shock the entirety of the NHL by trading Matthew SEO to Edmonton for Ryan McLoud we’re going to break down this trade in more later on this episode before we start I just want to give a shout out to everyone that is subscribed we’re trying to hit 4,000 by Sunday so you haven’t subscribed yet make sure to go down and hit the Subscribe button we’ll be all season and this offseason giving you updates from around the league so if you don’t want to miss another episode hit that subscribe button but with that we’re just going to break down this trade immediately we see Ryan McLoud is being tra from the Edmonton Oilers to the Buffalo Sabers for Matthew seavoy now this was a trade that almost shocked everyone no one was expecting this to happen obviously the Edmonton Oilers needed to clear up some cap space but the Buffalo Savers trading a former ninth overall pick for a guy in Ryan McLoud is a bit of a shocker now we do look at it as the fact that the Oilers acquire Matthew suroy now looking at Matthew seavoy he is coming into the league at 20 years old he has one game in any L under his belt we’ve seen he played in the AHL where he put up five points in six games before dominating with the Moosejaw Warriors in the WHL putting up 47 points in 23 games going into the playoffs in 13 in 19 games he put up 14 points and Casey overall what’s your thoughts on this trade just happening on a Friday evening yeah I love this from Edmonton honestly I think you know before this even happened I was a big Matthew seavoy guy I thought this guy is going to be a great uh player in the NHL and now getting that opportunity to play with a stared roster like the Edmonton Oilers is definitely going to excel his game to the next level I love this acquisition because next season he’ll come in maybe third fourth line Center or something like this and I’m expecting third and just dominate he’s a pure offensive guy he can put points on the board like you said he went back to moja after spending some time in the AHL and just went on a massive Rampage and this goes a ninth overall draft selection in the 22 draft in a 2022 draft I mean this is a top 10 uh pick guy that you’re getting here who has a lot of potential has a very high ceiling and this is just perfect for Edon because they get to clear out some cap and get a great Prospect in return yeah cuz the biggest thing is obviously we’ve seen the Oilers have a clear cap to get compliance going into next season so bringing in a guy that recently just turning 20 years old or sorry on January but going into the season being 20 years old he’s still young he has so much room to grow at 59 179 lbs he’s not the biggest player but he has a lot of speed we’ve seen the Oilers add quite a bit of speed going into this off season picking up guys like Jeff Skinner idson but looking at the Oilers team obviously moving out the 2.1 of a guy like Ry McLoud does clear up enough space where they can work this roster out run back with what they have yes they lose a guy that was a decent piece going into the playoffs helping them make it to the Stanley Cup finals I think it was Ryan McLoud put up four goals during the entire playoffs but bringing in a guy that hasn’t really got the taste of NHL on a team that’s already fast studded forwards in this group you have guys like hanor McDavid Ayman dry settle newtman Hawkins you still have these guys with young talent coming in you’re keeping the current core together while still getting younger to help compete go for deep runs and everything like this I really do like this and Casey I kind of put it out there could you see a guy like seavo maybe make it into this Oilers lineup and play the full 82 games yeah I definitely could I think this guy is a tremendous talent and he obviously has that edge on him to say hey I wasn’t going to get the opportunity in Buffalo that’s probably why they traded me now I got to go into training camp here in Edmonton and prove to management prove to the coaching that I deserve a spot in this bottom six middle six wherever he ends up and I think he definitely could do that like you said this guy’s very quick he’s his skating is Elite he can he’s also a great playmaker a great goal scorer he’s a great offensive guy and he’s he can win a few draws for you as well he’s you know he’s just an allaround complete Center I find maybe lacking a little bit of a defensive game not it’s not horrible or anything but it’s definitely not his strong suit his offense is what’s going to catch a lot of eyes here in son and I’m really excited for this tree because I’ve I’ve been a Matthew seavo guys since he been drafted I’m a big hockey car collector and I got a Matthew svoy collection I’m not going to lie I think this guy is going to be a tremendous talent and you know what Mark he even looks like Matt Molson so you know he if he’s if he be Matt mson for emited that’d be perfect yeah we see the B we see uh right now with him going in if you don’t have his Young Guns now is the time to buy it this guy’s join an offense that’s going to put up points we can see Matthew put up obviously his CER High cuz he hasn’t put up a point in the NHL but he’s going to have a tremendous season for the Edmonton oers if he does make it there I could see this guy coming in putting up 25 30 maybe even 35 points in the middle six to bottom six depending on who he’s playing with power play time and everything in between but this does get into the second topic and before I do get into this or fans how are you feeling about bringing in a guy like Matthew seavoy what kind of potential do you think he has in this lineup and where would you like him to start next season but let’s get straight into the second topic which is Buffalo Sabers get Ryan McLoud now Ryan McLoud was playing with the Edmonton Oilers obviously he’s a center 6’2 24 years old he’s a guy that can put a points for you 81 games play 12 goals 18 assists for 30 points 106 shots we see it was a plus 10 playing under 15 minutes time on Ice per game which was 1415 but this guy won uh a decent amount of his face offs last year this is a guy that can come in and produce immediately for the team like the Buffalo Savers and I kind of like this trade for Buffalo this is a team that’s fighting to get into the playoffs they haven’t touched the playoffs in quite some time they have this young core building yes moving on from a former former ninth overall pick does hurt a tiny bit but you’re also looking at this young core you have a young core of Dylan cousins Zack Benson jjp Payton Krebs all these guys are pretty much the exact same age as a guy like Ryan McLoud coming in so using this young core you still have young pieces you still have guys in the early 20s you have guys that aren’t even 20 in the NHL yet but you have this young core you want to bring in the pieces that are going to help you compete this year to help you get back into the playoffs am I saying Ryan mccloud’s going to come in and put up 90 points for you no but Ryan mccloud’s going to come in with experience in the NHL experience in the finals we’ve seen this guy help the Edmonton oers battle back to get to game seven against the Florida Panthers this guy is going to be a nice culture change to bring into Buffalo and overall Casey what your thoughts on a guy like Ryan McLoud joining this team yeah if I’m a buffalo fan right now I think my immediate reaction would be a little bit upset because I mean we’ve seen how great of a prospect Matthew Sao is I know a lot of Sabers fans were excited to see him transition into the NHL but I mean to kind of make their day a little bit brighter here Ryan McLoud is an established Center he’s not 20 years old he’s like about 24 almost 25 years old so he’s established he’s getting into the prime of his career so you’re kind of getting an older Matthew seavoy but not as offensive I guess you you could say here I think the upside of Ryan mccloud’s game is his defense he’s a tremendous defensive forward he had 66 takeaways last season and he can win faceoffs like Mark said he’s going to be solid for you on the draw and you like like Mark said he’s not going to go out and get your n points but he could definitely go out get you 40 50 points and just create some scoring chances for this Buffalo team which is very much needed because right now buffalo’s defense of core is tremendous I love their defense I love it a lot actually I think what they needed to work on was their offense obviously they got guys like Benson and younger guys coming up that are definitely going to help out their offense but now getting an established guy like Ryan McLoud a guy could who could immediately jump in and even play the 2C for this team I think is going to help out a lot yes you are losing a young guy which was really you everybody was really excited for because of his offensive upside but you’re getting a very solid uh defensive Center here who is really going to help your team out in the long run in my opinion Mark and we also seen the Sabres they obviously acquire Tyler as well with him he seems more like an AHL depth piece we could see him make the NHL maybe popping into the fourth line the third line whatever might be but as of right now now he was drafted as a fifth round pick 126 overall in the 2020 draft yes he still has potential at 22 years old but at the very moment it’s looking like the Ryan McLoud for sey is going to be the headliners of this and obviously so as they are the highest picks and have the most experience but Sabers fans what your thoughts on this do you think you give up too much for a guy like seavoy do you think bringing in a guy like Ryan cloud is the exact piece you needed to kind of get you over that hump bring a little bit of experience a guy that can compete now to help make the playoffs us no down in the comments but speaking on comments let’s get into everyone’s favorite topic which is comments of the day comment today comes from Bix he says stolar could be a rockstar this is obviously talking about Anthony stolar going to the Toronto map leafes and I couldn’t agree anymore I think stolar is a guy that could steal the show in Toronto from Joseph wall but if you guys enjoy this episode and you want to go down and leave a comment on anything we talked about you could be featured on the next episode of comment of the day like our friend Bix did here today while you’re down there leave a 9:30 Comment of the day

The Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres just shocked the NHL by trading Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio to the Buffalo Sabres for former 9th overall pick, Matthew Savoie. Mark Pye and KC break down this trade, how they fit and more on this episode of Hat Trick HQ.

  1. He will not be 3rd line center. You’re delusional if you think he takes Henriques spot on the 3rd line with brown and Janmark.

  2. Savoie aint making the lineup this up coming season unless theres an injury. If he doesnt crack the Sabres lineup he wont with Oilers lol.

  3. Skinner is one of the slowest guys in the league. The Oilers got slower.

Savoie has been hurt for portions of the last 2 seasons junior. No chance he plays the whole season in the nhl this season.

  4. He definitely not cracking open day lineup. To many good players he will play on farm team and if he does well maybe be called up if injuries or later on season if resting players for the playoffs

  5. Where’s KC from? Sorry, first time watching your page…don’t take offense, I’m a Newfie transplant in Edmonton

  6. Savoie won’t be playing in the NHL, 1C in the AHL.

KC is out to lunch on this one.

Great video- but slow the tires 😂 this is a depth deal.

  7. Sabres need to win now or else everyone is losing their jobs next offseason so it makes sense. MacLeod is basically replacing Mittelstadt

  8. KC slow down. The dude is 20 with 1 game in the nhl and 6 games in the AHL. Love that he’s an oiler, he def is going to be something way better than what clouded would’ve been.

  9. as an Oilers fan I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!YAASSSSSSSSS BUFFALO TAKE THIS NON SCORING, NON PUCK BATTLE WINNING, NON DOING ANYTHING SOFT STICK OF BUTTER BUFFALO BUTTER STICK MCLEOD WOOO HOOOOOO !!!!!!!!! ONLY OILERS FANS KNOW THE PAIN OF WATCHING MCLEOD!!!!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🤠🤠🤠

  10. Savoie may not even get to the NHL this year. Again. He's not first nor second, and possibly not even third in the Sabre's taltent pool. Redundant to the Sabres, who needed a 3rd line center with faceoff and PK skills who can skate and shift to wing sometimes. Only 24. Big. Sabres had enough weebles. As Savoie gets to come home, so does McLeod to Mississauga.

  11. As a Sabres fan I love this. I love the oilers so much I watched every game last year and now I might have to get me a savioe jersey now

  12. Trading a player with much higher potential but lower NHL surety for a player with a lower ceiling but is an NHL lock. It makes complete sense for the Oilers on many fronts, and makes sense if the Sabres think he could turn into a ~40-50 point 2-Way center and PK specialist.

  13. Oilers fans were talking about being lucky to get a late 2nd round pick for Mcleod, so trust me when I say we're all ecstatic to get Savoie for him. We all knew Mcleod was probably the odd man out due to cap constraints, so couldn't be happier. Now upgrade on Ceci and we're off to the races. As far as where Savoie starts, he'll be playing heavy minutes in the AHL next season. Possibly a black ace callup after the trade deadline.

  14. Savoi's offence translated to the AHL in a small sample size. That is huge. His developement has up arrows so far.

  15. He will probably play in Bakersfield all year and best case scenario he replaces Skinner after Skinner leaves.

  16. I would use the word infuriating to describe McLeod. Never did anything with his speed and zone entrys because he cant make a play. Shot isnt good enough to score from distance and he never drives to the net.Weak in corners. Everything is a fly by. His defense numbers are inflated because he doesnt forecheck.

  17. Maybe this is all part of a larger deal for Mitch Marner?? Buffalo still has $13 million in salary cap to spend & not many teams have cap space to sign a Marner deal. Toronto is going to want some NHL ready players included in any Marner trade. Maybe McLoud is just one piece of what it takes to bring Mitch Marner to Buffalo.

If this isn’t part of some larger trade Buffalo is crafting then their GM is nuts. McLoud was a salary dump. He permanently lost his 3rd line position after 3yrs of trying to hold it. We weren’t expecting anything in return except take his salary off our books. So if this isn’t part of some larger trade in the near future then Adams just gave away a top prospect for nothing.

  18. Mcleod is a good pick up for Buffalo, he's young, his contract is good. he plays hard. Mcleod was very good in the Stanley Cup Finals, that's what matters. The prospect being traded is just that " a prospect that may be a bust" Good trade Buffalo, you got a proven Stanley Cup player. Read what the Buffalo analytics were on Mcleod, it's very good. I see why they made this trade.

  19. Savoie is an excellent prospect. But lets settle down on the points in the whl last year hes a d+2 20 year old playing junior
