Who do you think should be Maple Leafs next head coach?

How do you feel about Sheldon Keefe taking responsibility in his goodbye message to Leafs Nation? How do you sum up Keefe’s tenure with the Maple Leafs? Who do you think should be Toronto’s next head coach? Can the Maple Leafs win if the core stays intact? Bryan Hayes joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

  1. Berube is too good a coach for the Leafs. The spiritual curse they are under will demolish any coach. Just look at how the Leaf curse works. The moment they hit the playoffs they hit a wall. Even a 69 goal scorer is reduced to nothing. Same goes for Keefe, the guy is a great coach but like all coaches they are too physically oriented and know nothing about the spiritual rules necessary to exorcise the demonic curse that the Leafs have been under since 1967.

  2. Berube is way too tough a coach for the soft Leafs. Toronto flake fans like new age hockey coaches, not old time hockey. Look what happened to Babcock, fired in Toronto. Don Cherry canned in Toronto for telling the truth. Leaf fans love spoiled Marner throwing his gloves like a 10 year old. That’s why Toronto will never win the cup.

  3. Keefe will be back in another coaching role, book it. He’ll reflect and make adjustments.

The issue is the roster build, team culture in particular due to the core four.

Move Marner and Tavares, get a new coach who can imprint a new brand of Leafs hockey.

  4. The wretched Leaves either underpay for inexperienced, cheap management, Stellick, Smith, Dubas, Horachek, Brophy, Keefe….

Or overpay for blowhards and has-beens, Babcock, Fletcher, Burke…

    Too many players to list…..

  5. I think the Leafs core would have the vapors if Berube showed up and lit into them for being soft. He's a better fit in NJ.

  6. Gerard Gallant as new Leafs coach👍🤔?

Radical suggestion: if John Tavares isn't willing to waive his NMC, then is it worth the Leafs buying him out? It would cetainly send a very loud message to the remaing team members and Leafs fans, about the new path being undertaken.

  7. this wasn't coaches fault this is on dubas he left us a mess. you can't pay 4 forwards that kinda cap% and win. Also our pp sucks because we don't have a proper #1 dman with a bomb from the point. morgan isn't a great defensive dman and he sucks on pp

  8. Hayesy is right – goaltending needs to be addressed. Marner to Anaheim for Gibson and 2nd pairing D; cash in, cash out. Go let Marner "be the man" in Anaheim, if he can. McCabe and Benoit need to stay. They're not always perfect, but they understand sacrifice. That will get you farther in the playoffs…

  9. Im thinking out Loud if Mathews has gone to Shanny and told him who he likes. He might also told them he would like to still have Marner.

  10. Step One is accomplished – coach fired, even though he wasn’t the problem.
Step Two – culture change too soft, incapable of consistency, motivation, grit, will, desire, commitment, drive, discipline, will and heart. Need to break up the core four. Marner is the poster boy for not stepping up in pressure games. Too busy figure skating during warmup instead of back checking.
Tavares signing was a waste from the get go.
Step Three – get a coach who “scares” these players and holds them accountable.
Step Four – Number One Goalie
Step Five – Defence wins championships, offence sells tickets during regular season but playoff hockey needs defensive commitment.
Step Six – Shanaplan 10 years – 1 playoff round series win. What other NHL organization would accept or tolerate that ?

  11. No hes not. They should try and Joel Quenneville tho hell get s*** going there lol….but obviously a big if cuz he suspended still…..i think

  12. Acting like he was a great coach because of regular season record is goofy.

The Leafs roster had all the talent in the world on it when he took over.

They were supposed to win a ton of games.

He never exceeded expectations once in the regular season. He never met expectations once in playoffs.

Any junior A coach could have a good regular season record with this roster.

Team was already a lock for playoffs every season when he took over.

Dubas wasnt building a playoff roster either, it was purpose built for exactly what it did.
