Is Marner more likely to waive NMC or test free agency if a change is on the horizon? | OverDrive

Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan are joined by TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger to discuss the future of Sheldon Keefe in Toronto, who could be his replacement if the Maple Leafs choose to move on from Keefe, is Brendan Shanahan safe going forward, does the noise in the Toronto market influence the team’s decisions, the likelihood of Mitch Marner being a Maple Leaf next season and what does a change of scenery look like from Marner’s perspective and the organization’s viewpoint. They are also joined by former MLBer and the Beadle and Decker co-host Cody Decker to discuss the expectation for Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. going forward and why the duo’s time is up in Toronto, has he ever seen a fall from grace like Alek Manoah and more. They wrap up the show by making their Wells Fargo PGA picks brought to you by TaylorMade.

  1. I have lost all interest in TSN. Marner is the best one of the core 4. You dont get rid of your best players and expect to win the Stanley Cup. Obviously TSN is brainless when it comes to hockey.

  2. Scruffy.. are you high or drunk best of core 4 when Marner is the most overrated biggest floater out of the core 4 points for minutes played useless he was the same player in junior
Tkachuk and Dvorak.,carried his floating ass Marner is a weak player

  3. Hayes talking about Marner taking less money and actually winning. I'm sorry, we know it's not going to work, we have plenty of evidence. Marner showed absolutely ZERO grit in the playoffs, he backed down and shied away from the spotlight. The idea of him taking less is also laughable, look at history to predict the future.

  4. I'm not a Leafs fan but….. What if this core had been led by wendyl Clark or Gilmour those guys define what heart is! Wasted talent on this franchise it's sad! They just love their money more than work for it!

  5. The Leafs were fun & interesting to watch. At least they make the playoffs and are good in the regular season. 😀

  6. Perspective:
    Jeff O'Neil 5th overall pick 1994/ 821games/ 237goals/ 259 assists/ 496points/ -115. Playoffs: 34games/ 9g/8a 17points -6

    Jamie McLennan: reg season 254g .898/ playoffs 5 g .879
    Bryan Hayes: OHL 93 games 7 g 18 a 2 playoff games 0 points.
These are the kind of guys who comment on Superstar players…draw your own conclusions.

  7. id say 8-9m for 6 years is what my mitch number would be,,, he is worth more, but thats what id offer or let him go so we can build in a different direction

  8. What nonsense. If Marner refuses to be dealt on a sign and trade he loses the eighth year. It will cost him $11. The leafs can’t afford another $11 million forward.

  9. Marner playing his best next year to show everyone he's worth it ? What the f$ck?? Why don't you play like that all the time ..not just to pad your bank account …get rid of that poison pill …he's a pathetic baby

  10. it is the players right, however the instant it gets out that mitch has declined to waive, he will get destroyed in the media, probably even booed next season

  11. Marner is not Kane, Kucherov, Panarin, Stone. He is not an impactful winger in the playoffs. Nylander is a little better but even he is 2 million overpaid. Overpaying Marner would crush all chances of bringing a Cup during the Matthews era. Trade him, and finally get some top 4 defencemen.

  12. I love Mitch! He has to go! We need the cap space to move forward and he just does not perform in play offs!!

  13. I don't understand why Marner, currently in his prime, would risk future contract negotiations by playing hardball with the Leafs. The team could scratch him from the lineup, demote him to the 3rd or 4th line, or even play him on the 2nd pp. Is being petty really worth it? I don't think so.
