He needs to threaten 100 points next season or he'll be well off the marks set by Crosby and McDavid in their sophomore stints.
Bedard had such a bad rookie year, he needs 2 years in the AHL to develop NHL skill. It's nice that he did ok on the powerplay, but besides that, he wasn't good at anything.
– 3rd among rookies in turnovers
– NHL rookie record with -44
– worst rookie with 8 shorthanded goals against
– Was terrible 5on5, and was a liability every time he was on the ice
– was so bad at face-offs that at the end of the year he was taken off them
– the team was much more productive with Slaggert on the ice than Bedard
– plays no penalty kill because he doesn't know what defense is
– Bedard is small and plays small and plays scared, which is odd for a dude with a full mask. He's such a liability that when he was on the ice, the opponents just ignored him. No better example than that final game against LA. Chicago was up, then at the end of the game, Connor inexplicably got a lot of ice time, and LA scored 3 quick goals to win the game.

Hawks making a play for Marner would be absolutely idiotic. This guy will not be a game changer for the Hawks. When the time is right, maybe 2-3 years from now, Hawks need to have the cap room to sign Hossa type players. Guys that will make a difference in the playoffs. Marner is not now, and, never will be that guy.
