Panarin hit on Oshie – Have your say!

Artemi Panarin hit T.J. Oshie coming across the zone. It was called a major for review, but later reduced to not a penalty at all. Did they get it right? Have your say!

  1. That was a head hit, without a doubt. You can see the head whiplash…before the body gets hit. Always a dangerous type of hit.

  2. He hits the body and head at the same time it seems. I don't know, hard to argue when they stop and review it for several minutes. I'm curious for your review. In real time I thought this was gonna be 5 and a game for Panarin. Slow mo, it kind of looks like he just hits everything at the same time. I guess they agreed with that. Not 100% on the rule if head + body are hit simultaneously, does it negate the head aspect

  3. Neutral perspective here. At first glance it looks looks like he was hit in the head. Then I watch it at other angles and I watch his elbow the entire time and I see it tucked in. I watch it again and I still think he was hit in the head. Honestly, I think what saves this from being a suspension is the tucked elbow.

  4. This is an incomprehensible call. The NHL must be the only league on the planet where this is not a major + game for checking to the head. It would have been bad enough if they had reduced it to a minor, but they even nullified it.

  5. CLEAN HIT, GOOD TO SEE OSHIE GET LEVELED AFTER CHEAP SHOTTING PANARIN ALL GAME… THIS IS HOCKEY, NOT TENNIS.. AND WILSON, ANOTHER CHEAP SHOT DIRTBAG STAYED OUT OF IT, NOT WANTING TO GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE BY REMPE.

  6. Unbelievable there are people here delusional enough to think that was not a hit to the head. I mean great, you are a Ranger fan obviously, but come on, that was so clearly a hit to the head, GET REAL!!!!, Oh, by the way, I am a downtrodden Sabres fan, so I have no special regard for either team.

  7. TJ did not respect Breads position on the ice. Surely this little russian would never run trough me with a reverse body check if I put myself in a weak position going for the loose puck. TJ literally poked the bear and found out. Great play by Breadman.

  8. unavoidable head contact, oshie skating bent over leading with his head but could make argument panarin could alter his angle, refs obviously went with unavoidable

  9. Basically a Kronwall type hit where the head contact is with his back, not his shoulder. I see this type of back-to-head contact with reverse hits. I think it should have been 5 and game, but until the league decides enforce the 'avoidable' part of the rule it won't be called.

  10. Not sure if I particularly like hits like this where there's no hockey play following up (unlike the Iorio hit which directly lead to a turnover), but objectively there's no angle of this reply which shows CLEARLY the head being the principle and avoidable point of contact OR that Panarin lead with the elbow. Pause it at the 10 second mark and watch it frame by frame. Panarin's numbers are right on Oshie's shoulder and its body on body. Also check point the camera angle from behind Panarin … his HIPS are driving through Oshie's midsection. It sucks for Oshie to be in that position, but that is playoff hockey where everything is super tight and with anything like this its not easy to be conclusive because some head contact is pretty much always occuring when open ice hits like this occur. There was similar hit on Zibanejad (who had also just reached out to poke a puck away) in game 1 and there was no call on Wilson and rightfully so. I think if Oshie's head HAD been the principle/main point of contact on this heavy collision, he would not have made it off the ice on his own power. The reason the spotters sent him to the dark room was because he looked dazed after the hit which is not surprising given his history of concussions (which you CAN get even if your head is not directly hit).

  11. Clean hit.. I would have gone into that left shoulder same effect.. It's the Playoffs.. I'm sure they'll have an answer to that tomorrow LGR…
