  1. Laura:
If 2 years from now the habs are close to playoffs….. ouch. If 2 years from now they are just fighting for playoff, this will be gigantic disappointments. Next year is the last acceptable year to be fighting for wildcard. After that, if we don't aim higher this will be horrible.

I want Gallagher and Anderson out right now f we could cuz I want playoffs next year and they are both killing us by costing so much and being quite low value on the ice

  2. giving seanf farrel to also get rid of gallagher at 6.5 would be the greatest GM move in habs history

  3. I my opinion the Habs feel a need to acquire a player they should have have developmental potential like Dach or Newhook. Wait until the team looks like they can make a cup run, and tweak the roster with a LEADER at that time. Taking on a PLD type is just plain goofy, don't need that blemish on this salary cap. Take Lindstrom at the draft instead.

  4. The habs have too many prospects , too many picks that won’t have a chance to develop or get a real shot at the nhl due to the extreme congestion and to the fact that Montreal already have a core and pretty much a full line up signed and committed to. I’ve been saying for a long time , without Gallagher and Anderson cap hit, the habs would be the team in the best position in the league , they’re one of the youngest and by far the deepest on defense and goalie prospect depth

If I were Hugues , I’d move now and pull two blockbuster trades , trades that would be expensive but that would aquire a top players and getting rid of gallagher and Anderson at the same time but the habs would have to overpay which shouldn’t be a problem as they have too much of everything except offense and cap space

Here’s are an exaggerated mock trade just to explain my point, again just an example . You could change variables and players to be aquired

Gallagher , Winnipegs first , Harris 2nd pick in 2025 for zegras .

And then pull the same type of trade for Anderson for something relevant . Montreal don’t need 1st round picks outside the top ten, they have too many players under contract for the maximum 50 allowed by the nhl , so theyll be forced to move a lot of assets .

The goalie position is set, the defense is set, and on offense Roy, Beck and Kapanen are all ready to make the jump . So any way you look at it , the only thing to do is trade all the dead wood to make cap room for an talented impact offensive player(s)

The rebuilt is over, the habs have a surplus of picks and prospects , the habs are a few tweaks away from being a really good team

  5. Laine is big and cheap, Zegras is also cheap and has a cap friendly contract . If Montreal aquire both while getting rid of Gallagher and Anderson at the same time , they would become instant contender if zegras and Laine only play at half their talent . I think both would thrive in Montreal as they love attention so make those team offers they can’t refuse , the habs have also too many defensemen and picks . So why not overpay to solve all your problems at once ?

    What I would do

    Anderson , Winnipegs 1st in 2024 , Barron and a 2nd round in 2024 for zegras

Gallagher , Mesar , Montreal 1st in 2025 top 10 protected , defense prospect for Laine

    Laine-Dach-Slafkovsky
    Caufield-Suzuki-zegras
    Armia-Evans-Dvorak
    Roy-Beck-RHP, Kapanen

    Matheson-Mailloux
    Hutson-Savard
    Xhekaj-Ghule ,Struble ,Harris , reinbacher

That’s a great lineup and Montreal still has to move kovacevik and Harris or Savard to make room.
