The Kings haven't beaten the Oilers in regulation in the playoff this year, or last year – all their wins in the playoffs the past two years have been in OT. Their last playoff regulation win over Edmonton was game 4 in the 2022 playoffs
Bring on the genius that would trade for Dubois all over again! 😂 what an utter disaster that trade was. Ruined cap, ruined depth, closed options, forced them to play with spare part goalies, AND contributed nothing! BUYOUT.
This team is in no mans land we're good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to do any damage. The players we have are pretty much topped out talent wise ( except Byfield) meaning at this point the players we have are who they are. We're capped out cap wise losing Arvidsson and Roy resigning Byfield and looking year after Kempe. The signings of Fiala and PL were huge mistakes and unless we can unload one preferably PL we're in a grey zone. And honestly there's not much in the pipeline. Lombardi had gone after guys who we're successful at various levels juniors or had been on runs with other teams. Blake signed 2 high priced long term guys who have had none of that oh and we don't really have any goaltending depth outside of Portillo. In short we're kinda fucked.
I took most of the season off bc I hated the PLD trade (and his contract) that sent Vilardi & Iafallo away, and bc I knew the Kings were worse from that trade plus not signing a good goalie. Also figured the chemistry would worsen due to losing heart & soul player, Iafallo, and an improving Gabe Vilardi. I wanted Blake fired for that trade & it will be bad if he is kept for another season after losing in 5. Last seasin they were 4 min. away from a 3-1 lead vs. Oilers, so they got worse this year, due to the trade & not getting a gd goalie. PLD has to go, even if he has to be bought out.
One bright spot in the series was Alex Lafferier. His effort was noticeable, and it was great to see him get rewarded with a goal.
As far as changes go, I do think they will hire a new coach and perhaps impliment a new system. Let's not beat a dead horse, the PLD trade hasn't worked out so far but he's locked in long term and I think management will prioritize finding a coach who can get the most out of PLD.

Oiler fan here. Rough series for the Kings. I'll admit it, the refs were suspect. Ultimately I don't think the Kings would have beaten the Oilers. However they are much better than a 4-1 series. Your GM lost this series for you last year. And Kempe. What an absolute treat watching that guy play was.
Need to replace Blake and coach. Bring in new people who are not connected any players
Dubois, 8.5 mil. Doughty 11 plus million. Gavrikov 6 mil. Kopitar who pretty much was non factor in the series, extended 2 more years at 7 mil. That's Blake's legacy. And don't forget 5 mil owed to former coach next season.

Mercyfully, it ends boys and girls. Mercifully, it ends. I, for one, am glad, as I have told everyone from the start that this team does not have what it takes. There is one thing about watching a bad team that has little talent but is at least scrappy to a team like the 2023-24 LA Kings that is full of duds. Get rid of Fiala and PLD in the offseason. Whatever you have to do, just do it. I would be fine if they moved Byfield and Clarke right along with them to sweeten the deal. I see both of those guys as good but not great players. They are definitely not MacKinnon and Makar. They can go. Kaliyev and Grundstrom need to go as well. Roy leaves as well as Arvie, we are looking at over 25+ million off the cap with all transactions right there. I am looking to get a more dangerous blueline with some big shooters, and upfront, we are looking at guys who make the defense uncomfortable and can battle. There is just not enough of that. Just like the Jets, the Kings are a regular season team, but they can't hit that extra gear. I am a Talbot fan. I don't care what anyone says. He has the right attitude, and when he is on his game, he is on his game. Maybe have him and Portillo next season. There are not many better alternatives in the free agent market unless you like Samsonov. Anyway, don't drink the hopiium about officiating, goaltending, or whatever. I think the coaching could be better, but McLellan is not that bad. It was never his fault. The whole hopium thing where Sutter replaced Murray…it will be just like that. Lol give me a break 😅
The kings need to bring up Thomas, Turcotte, Fagemo, and Clark. Time for the kids to take over the team
The Kings are stuck in idle. They will lose some everyday players to FA. Two aging HOF and surround by good players, not great, with the exception of Kempe and Fiala. On the good side, this gives their young player in Ontario a chance to be the everyday players to replace Roy and Arviddson, who will walk away to a better deal. Good luck finding a goalie…
Two hockey teams that play opposite kinds of hockey. The Edmonton style typically always prevails. Their style is very aggressive puck control and strong rushes into the O zone and high quality shot set ups. Kings were often pressured and on their heels trying to cope and contain. Other elite teams can beat Edmonton because such other teams play similar or better with that style.
Dubois needs to go asap. His damage is already done. Ruined this season in almost every way. He was good to the rookies but man at 8.5…. he needs twice the points at bare minimum

I only started watching this podcast this playoff series. All you do is complain about officiating. My one word for this podcaster is “whiner”. Kings were going nowhere this playoffs regardless of officiating. Be better.

The Kings just play dirty, guys. They pull that slew foot play a LOT. They have a couple guys (like Fiala) who dive and embellish a LOT. Eventually, the refs catch on, get sick of it, and you stop getting the benefit of the doubt.
Live by the dirty sword, die by the dirty sword. Maybe your boys should just cut that shit out.
