Oilers put the Kings to bed (and off to their summer) for the third straight year in round 1. This time it only took 5 games (last year it took 6 and the year before 7). There are some stats that glare right at you on this one. Kings 57 hits to the Oilers 27. Kings 34 faceoff wins to the Oilers 24. Oilers 1/5 on the PP and 100% on the PK (again) but 2 goals came within seconds of the PP ending. Oilers 9 giveaways to LA's 4. Oilers 13 Takeaways to the Kings 2 and a huge one for me Oilers 22 blocks vs the Kings 12. The Kings had challenges getting it even TO Skinner.

The first LA goal was an unlucky bounce and the last one they had pulled their goalie for a man advantage (then after closing within one they take a stupid penalty and poof go their chances). The first Leon goal took a review to confirm as Riddich has the puck in his glove but the glove had crossed the goal line so PP goal. The Oilers owned the special teams battle in this series. Their PK remained 100% throughout and they got a lot of goals on the PP. Fiala took an embellishment penalty while saying "I believe I can fly" after a short Foegele hook (so we got coincidental minors there). I mean this isn't football (what some call soccer) where embellishment is an art form (typically paint by numbers done by the totally blind with the cap still on the marker but…).

Hope you enjoyed the stats and take care all.

  2. Fiala has dove so much in the past few years that it's not even funny. The same ref that reffed this series last year was reffing last night and obviously sees what Fiala does just like Marner. It was such an obvious dive and that call was right. Regardless, great game by the oil and hope they keep it going.

  3. Lots of LA fans here in the comments crying over refs, look if you want to be mad then be angry at the fact the Kings have some of the worst special teams I've ever seen.

  4. After that puck went off the stanchion and LA scored, I won't lie, I thought the Hockey Gods were sending a message. Who doesn't want Kempe on their team?

  5. Oilers in 7 two years ago, Oilers in 6 last year, Oilers in 5 this year. So look for an Oilers sweep when these teams inevitably meet again next season.

  6. While technically the Oiliers were 1/5 on the PP, practically speaking they were 3/5 as two of the goals happened right after the PP ended the returning playing wasn't back into play yet. Also, Skinner practically (there's that word again) only let in one goal as the first was a total fluke.

  7. As long as McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman, and Bouchard, wear the Oilers sweaters, the Kings will not get to the conference finals. Clearly, Edmonton has learned from past post-season losses. The Edmonton power play is awesome to watch and I cringed every time L.A. took a penalty.

NHL post season hockey is so much fun to watch.

  8. It would appear the PLD trade made the Kings worse and the Jets better…good news is his no trade no movement contract is up in only seven years!

  9. Awesome jersey! I have the same with draisatle stamped on. Such a beaut! Wore it last night for the series win! Worked a charm as drai got a couple

  10. The 1/5 pp seems low but in reality the 2 most important goals were seconds after. Special teams was the difference in the game and series for sure

  11. What was wrong with Skinners game? He allowed 3 goals, 1 6 on 5 and 1 insane bounce off a stanchion. The other was a pretty clean break
