  1. Flames organization doesn't like rebuild but rather retool. Won't win em the cup but let's see what happens.

  2. I think Calgary has just ruined their ability to even compete at an NHL level with their current lineup, they are basically an AHL team now. Since the 21-22 season end I have compeletly lost hope in the franchise and feel like they are just not capable of making good decisions, I think they need a new management and possibly ownership. The fan base in calgary also makes me irritated as they keep pushing the franchise to pickup young players, it's as if the fans are parents of children trying to make it into the NHL. The lack of support of Sutter and the 20-21-22 season team from the fan base also tells me they didn't know what a good team was when they had one. I am against every decision this team has made and they feel like they self sabotage. Even the city delayed progress to get an arena is frustrating, this should have happened 10 years ago. I think this speaks alot about the people who call Calgary home, and the lack of forsight or decision making. Maybe I am overly critical but I think the Flames management has just lost it. I predict if any other team is going to lose their city like the coyotes it's going to be the flames next and that is just a sad fact of the reality. No fan wants that, but I hate sitting on the sidelines thinking these are just not educated decisions this team is making and I don't have any confidence they can fix things anytime soon. They don't seem to recognize talent, and seem to be constantly trying to be an underdog putting faith into pieces to the puzzle that shouldn't be a center piece. They had a great team for 2 seasons, and should have done everything to run it back. Instead they dumped the coach, dumped the team and then signed guys to be the new key piece and everyones focused on making that team younger or getting picks… Good luck is all i can say cause they need it.

  3. I must've missed who is almost assured the third pick i feel like almost every team has a >1% chance to pick 3rd.

  4. I think, they’re not so bad… they have a few younger players coming up and the core is okayish… Hub is a good player, not sure why it’s not working out… if he gets into it, they will be fine. Marks and Vladar needs to go (please god, no NJD) and bring cheaper option veteran to Wolf. And use the money to get something out of UFA market…

I don’t think that total rebuilds will a good option for most of the teams since the competition for PO is extremely high and any kind of tear down means no PO for maybe a decade… 🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. I'd rather see them bottom out for a couple years and get top 5 picks. But Im sure they won't tear it down that way due to ownership.

  6. I expect Huberdeau to be better next year. He had a terrible start last year, but once 2024 started he was up close to a ppg, which would justify his contract in my opinion.

  7. Calgary should tear it down while they still have some valuable pieces, regardless of if they sneak into the playoffs next year they're nothing more than first round fodder. Markstrom could get a nice package, and Weegar could get a kings ransom.

  8. I think the Flames future is bright. They have a good group of rookies coming up. Add a top centre and dman from free agency and they could be in contention.

As a point a game guy Hube is only overpaid by 2.5 million, not that significant. Weegar is a solid dman. We did ok in that trade.

This batch of young guys just need seasoning, you cannot renew without growing pains. Kuzmenko needs to be used properly. And the post season next year is possible.

I wouldn't mind them splitting the net 3 ways if Vladar gets 20, Wolf gets 20, and Marky takes the rest.

Vladar could be a #1 someplace like Philly. (Maybe for OwenTippet).

Markstrom is overplayed, he should play no more than 50 during the season.

I doubt they could beat the Avalanche or Oilers next season in the playoffs but you never know. Maybe Makar comes home when he is a UFA.

    Cheers.

  9. In regards to height comments, MN collects short players and we hear about it often. We feel the pain of the short kings.

  10. Flames finish just outside the playoffs almost every year so that's ultimately where they'll stay because they cant draft early. Combined that with no new arena and some bad contracts and the future is uncertain at best.

  11. Flames will need to get better & hope division rivals like the Kings & Canucks regress to have a chance next season.

  12. I don't think so. They need to hit on this, and the next, drafts to do a proper rebuild/retool or what have you.

  13. Yegor gonna leave this summer, so will marksbum. They'll have no scoring, no goaltending (wolf is overrated and will never be anywhere close to Saros, don't @ me), I can see them potentially being in the mix for a 1st O/A draft pick.

  14. The Flames were 20th in league scoring, but the goals came from everywhere in the lineup. Basically three 30-goal scorers if you include Kadri, a 20-goal dman in Weegar, 9 more from Ras, and six more players in double digits. Kuzy came on pretty strong towards the end and will be playing for his next contract, so I don't think 30 goals is out of the question. Mangi has already scored 35 in this league. If you ask me, the real mess is on D, which goes to show what kind of stability Tanev and Hanny brought to the corps. You mentioned Brzustewicz, but Poirier will be the one to get a long look at camp, maybe even slide onto that second pair with Ras. The short-term future really boils down to how this draft goes. Best-case scenario would be to move Marky to NJ if we still can for a package including another '24 1st. Any two of Lindstrom, Demidov, Tij, and Yakemchuk plus whoever we can nab with the van pick would be an absolutely filthy 1st round. I wouldn't mind if the Flames' trajectory was similar to that of the Habs, how they gradually worked their young guys into the lineup, and accepted the growing pains that came along with it. They even snuck as the 8th season a couple years ago and made a bit of noise. Nothing but brighter days ahead for both teams imho

  15. Always excited for the future. Had a few AHL player breakthroughs with the big club this year. Zary, Pospisil, fringe player Coronato. Have to see if they can continue progress in the 2nd year with the Flames. The D core is decimated they have anderson and weegar for a possible 1st pairing but players below them is poor slotting trying to fill the gaps from hannifin and tanev getting shipped out not having a real second line, 3/4 pairing defencemen. kylington a bright spot but need to put some miles on the skates to find out. The fan base is accustom to a strong push for a wildcard or just falling short. Interested in how that 19 million cap space can be used this summer

  16. Calgary needs a player or two just to get back to where they started this season. That's not a high bar either, and look how much better the division is getting around them.

Gotta wonder if they wouldn't be better off committing to the retool

  17. Thank you PLD for making the Huberdeau trade look good in comparison (although I admit Weegs is starting to become one of my favorite players)

  18. If the Flames finish in the bottom 10 next year, Montreal will get Florida's 2025 first rounder so not as bad
