The only way Canada can win a cup with Bettman in charge.

Just load up the US teams with Canadians.

  2. Lightz29

Just out of curiosity, who’s the player from Hawaii?

  3. Baginsses

I’m curious what this looks like adjusted for population to show what % of the population of each province/state makes it to the NHL

  4. bliceroquququq

This chart should be handed out to every parent of a kid in the US who plays travel hockey.

  5. OhmyGhaul

I’m not a Canadian but holy shit Quebec needs a team again 😳

  6. New_girl2022

This makes me cry. Like fuck why can’t wr have the cup here more often.

  7. Neither_Ad3397

How do they define “from?” Birthplace? A lot of NHLers have a pretty nomadic childhood moving to different areas to play juniors and what not.

I’m surprised at some of the states. Like Wyoming and Arkansas have produced double digit NHL players?

  8. No-Doctor-4396

Really surprised to see so many players from New Mexico.

  9. Far_Stage_9587

    1-14: 29 subdivisions
    15-20: 1 subdivision
    16-30: 2 subdivisions

I feel like you could have chosen better cutoffs. I also don’t know which colour 16-20 is supposed to be.

  10. LoCh0_xX

Surprised that California has so many players relative the other western states, but also I’m assuming that’s just because they have such a higher population

  11. RattyDaddyBraddy

I’m curious to see an identical map for other pro sports

  12. jusducks24

Can’t really say enough about how little KSE has done for youth hockey in Colorado, especially compared to the teams in California.

  13. warmage20

I’m pretty sure the only NHL player from Arizona is Auston Matthews.

  14. Informal-Pound600

Surprised the PNW states like Washington and Oregon don’t have more players – don’t they have a long hockey history?

  15. Odd-Substance4030

Literally almost all Canadian. Go Canada!

  16. iacceptjadensmith

These colors are fucking me up man

  17. I live in southern Ontario and even our beer leagues are jacked!

  18. OpinionOwn6727

you’d think alaska would have more since its all ice/snow up there

  19. Jefflehem

Over 2000 guys from Oklahoma made the NHL?

  20. dukezap1

East Coast Canada needs to step its game up

  21. Tiger5804

And yet the most popular player in Ontario is the one from Arizona

  22. Just_a_dude_online

Is Zac jones the only player from Virginia?

  23. the_last_third

I live in Kansas and can’t think of a single player that made it to the NHL.

  24. JBennett85

    Seems pretty poorly made. /r/terriblemaps

  25. PotentialUmpire3771

This is what I think about when people mention canadas cup drought. Like who’s winning your American cups…….. Canadians

  26. SatanicPanic0

This seems very wrong. Also terrible colour scheme.

  27. kanahamppari

Bad chart, dark and dark representing both low and high doesn’t work, just makes it hard to read ffs

  28. SauceKingHS

There’s NHL players from the ocean? Aquaman on skates, fr?

  29. Quorthon123

Pacific and Atlantic Ocean account for 16 – 30 NHL players? Thats wild

  30. CommodoreN7

Who is from Arkansas? Curious as a born and raised Arkansan

  31. Neither_Ad3397

    Here’s the 5 from Utah:

Trevor Lewis — moved to Colorado when he was 14.

Steve Konawalchuk — moved to Canada when he was 15.

Dylan Olsen — moved to Canada when he was 14.

Richard Bachman — moved to Colorado as a kid (unsure of the age but it would have been no later than 14)

Daniel Brickley — Played 2 years of high school hockey in salt lake (and won 2 state championships) and then I believe he moved to Canada at 17 to play juniors.

Fun fact: Olsen’s dad played minor league hockey in salt lake and Brinkley’s dad refereed many of those games.

I’m having a slight issue believing Quebec has such a dramatic lead over everyone else. I understand Montreal is there, but still.

  33. None_Required

That chart makes the plight of the Toronto Maple Leafs even funnier.
