Why Future Hall Of Famer Steven Stamkos Will Be A Detroit Red Wing Next Season | The Daily Ticket

What if we told you there potentially could be a NHL Free Agent that could put the Detroit Red Wings over the top next season. Steven Stamkos had 40 goals last year, he had 155 goals in his last 3 seasons and he could be a Red Wing next season is he opts for free agency? Tampa hasn’t tried to bring him back yet. The Bolts window is closing so what good would he do there and think about how much another star Center would help the Red Wings? Jeff Riger takes you through a scenario that brings one of the best players in the game to Detroit and why an existing relationship between Stamkos and Wings GM Steve Yzerman could be the reason why it happens. It’s a hopeful episode of The Daily Ticket!

  1. It’s important to note half of all points and goals scored by Stamkos were on the PP this year. That’s a very scary stat line if your goal is for Stammer to be a play driving winger.

  2. Although the Wings need a 2c I am not sure Stamkos is the right fit, I think he would be a better fit as a winger with Larkin and given that and how well Kane fit in, I think Kane fits the team better.

  3. Stammer is more a specialized winger not a center, unless he wants to give the wings a major discount maybe, but then you're getting older in place of going with prospects for a guy like ghost, I'd say no thanks, but media pundits are probably salivating at the possibility of someone who may add something they dont need, more goals in place of defense. Wings have done this in the past: wendell clark, pat verbeek, etc… and it never works out.

  4. I’d rather have Patrick Kane, we can’t have both Kane and Stamkos especially since we need to sign Raymond and Sieder which both are going to be $8-9M for 8 years

  5. I don’t want stamkos. It’s going to be a long expensive contract going thru his late 30s. How much of his output is driven by kucherov. Detroit needs a solid 50 point guy that plays 200 feet well and wins face offs. I’ll even take a 20/20 type of player if he can play 2 way hockey. And I bet it will be much cheaper then stamkos.
