  1. Utah will not do that Keller is there best player there leader and he’s on a good team friendly deal it’s like trading utahs Mathews he is there main building block and unfortunately I don’t think Marner can be that main building block and is more that really good side kick like a hintz to Robertson

  2. From Utah, should be a good move for both teams only if Marner sign around 11.5 x 8 before the trade.

  3. I get the impression Chicago is a more likely landing point for Marner should he change address

  4. Overall, the idea is to improve Toronto’s overall depth by sacrificing some of the high-end skill level of the top 6. I think that Nick’s take on a Leafs-Islanders trade is right thematically, but I don’t see it happening with those teams. I think the most logical move would be to send Marner to Calgary for Markstrom +. That would shore up a weak position for Toronto, and it opens the door for Calgary’s future goaltenders to step up. I’m not sure if Marner approves that offer, though, and he’s pretty much in the driver’s seat here.

Similar moves would be to send Marner to Seattle for Dunn & Grubauer (Grubauer balances the AAVs and can back up Will; Dunn dramatically improves Toronto’s back line), to Anaheim for Zegras & Gibson (Zegras will bring more flair and aggression to the top-6, and Gibson could, at least, be a good backup option), or to LAK for Spence and Dubois.

Here me out on that last one.

It was Dubois’ play in Toronto, during the bubble playoffs, that he elevated his game to the beast-mode level that everyone now expects him to play to (and that earned him his currently overpriced contract extension). And it was after that bubble playoff that Dubois began giving off signals of not wanting to play in a sleepy hockey market (see: Columbus, Winnipeg). Maybe what he needs is the heat of a major market to thrive on. Mitch for PLD would be a defining move for Treliving; if it didn’t work, he’d need to get his resume in order quickly. But if Dubois came back to his form (25+ goals, 60+ points) and maintained the physical style of play that he has when he’s on his game, it would change the landscape of the top-6. Imagine Knies on one line, PLD on the next line, then McMann on the next. That’s a greasy lineup. And you would be able to add a good middle-pairing puck-moving D and probably still have room to add an upgrade for the backup goalkeeper position—someone who could play 35+ games in support of Woll.

It would be a ballsy move. It’s a gamble. But if the pressure is on, it’s the kind of gamble that could pay off really well if it works.

  5. Smith in Utah did not become a Billionaire by being an idiot. I`m sure he does not want B**ch Moaner.

  6. Why would the wimpy Marner get over 10 mil? And why give up a heart and soul player like Keller? You’re kidding right?

  7. honestly as a completely neutral fan who has never really watched keller play since arizona has been a dump for most of my life, but i feel as though this trade would help both teams, utah gets a player who could be a cornerstone franchise first line winger to build around who gets to play ina much smaller market and can build his confidence and probably perform far better if they make the playoffs, and toronto gets a replacement for marner who may not put up as many points in the regular season but could definitely be a difference maker come playoffs

  8. Toronto should look to trade Marner for Utah's 1st round pick + assets, that way they'd be able to get a really good young defenceman along with whatever else they'd be able to get on top of that

  9. Yes, do the opposite of what Colorado did with the same 3 big highly paid players; they traded away for draft picks and got Makar, Byram, and a Stanley Cup. How would trading Marner away for another forward change the poorly-constructed roster with no 1 or 1A defencemen??

  10. I can't agree that Utah is going to stink next year. The Yotes were a playoff contender until the 14 game losing streak that was admittedly spurred by the relocation rumors. They have 50M in cap space, an absolute stockpile of picks/prospects and were in the top 10 in scoring this year with a ton of rookies in the top 6. If they throw a little money around in FA, (and they plan on it) to build a D-core, and maybe another goaltender, I think they're a shoe-in for the playoffs in 24/25. Let's also consider how much better the core guys are going to play without all of the arena and relocation drama hanging over their heads, not to mention, how much better Cooley, Guenther, and Doan are going to get very quickly.

  11. Marner is Toronto's problem to find a solution to, not someone else's problem. If I'm Utah, I stay far away from that perennial David Copperfield act.
