YZERMAN’S OFFSEASON: RED WINGS ROUNDTABLE ft. Bultman & Iyer – Winged Wheel Podcast – Apr. 24, 2024

Now that we’ve looked back at the Detroit Red Wings and their 2023/2024 season, it’s time to look ahead at the job Steve Yzerman has ahead of him this summer.

Tune in as we open by discussing some key priorities for Yzerman in Hockeytown, including the Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond extensions, making room for young players like Simon Edvinsson, Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur, Albert Johansson, Nate Danielson, or even Axel Sandin Pellikka, and managing the cap through contracts like Holl, Maatta, Petry, & others (4:25). Next, Patrick Kane’s latest message and what it means for his time in Detroit (12:15).

We’re then joined by Max Bultman of The Athletic Detroit and Prashanth Iyer to discuss all things Red Wings: the past season, what the Seider and Raymond contracts may look like, free agent and trade options for Yzerman (Zegras? Marchessault? Markstrom? Gibson?), a review of the “Yzerplan”, contract and cap management, how to get help for Larkin, DeBrincat, Raymond, and others, & lots more (14:45).

Next, NHL news including the Utah (Mammoth? Yetis? Outlaws?) team name, a playoff update (Bobrovsky’s freak save, Demko’s injury) (1:20:00) & lots more before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:28:50) – enjoy!

  2. I think Necas might be worth a shot. Had a down year and I don't think the Canes have the space to extend him regardless.

  3. I listen to you guys on my way to work, and not going to lie, got me scared when I didnt see this episode on youtube. love the content gents!

  4. Kane 100% is staying. He just knows how to stay relevant with the media, and get money…. legend

  5. I dunno about messing with Mo to save a couple million, and I do think he can have 70 pt seasons still easily. The thing you stop doing are these bad contracts in Holl, and Copp. Can also move Maatta or Fabbri IMO.
