This Day in Kings’ History (2001): Adam Deadmarsh eliminates the Detroit Red Wings in overtime



On April 23, 2001, the Kings eliminated the Detroit Red Wings in Game 6 at STAPLES Center. Adam Deadmarsh scored the series clinching goal in a 3-2 overtime win, and advanced the Kings to the semifinals where they would face Rob Blake and the Colorado Avalanche.

    I bought a single ticket to Game 6 right behind the net for $60 after Game 2. I figured if we managed to extend the series it would be a good game. I had NO IDEA I was about to see one of my favorite sporting events ever.

    I was there in one of the suites. My mom’s job offered a few of them spots and she took me knowing how much of a fan I was. Best Kings game I ever went to

    One of greatest playoff series wins ever, down 0-2 winning 4 straight. Unfortunately and ironically we ran into Rob Blake and of course Sakic, Forsberg and Roy to dash any hopes of our first Cup in a solid 7 game series. We got destroyed in Game 7, 5-1 and the Avs went on to win the Cup taking down Marty and the NJ Devils.
