Kaapo Kahkonen is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He actually impressed me during his short stint this season. He was acquired by the New Jersey Devils during the trade deadline. The team gave up Vitek Vanecek for his services. Since his production was respectable, Tom Fitzgerald might consider re-signing him.

Honestly if they resign kaapo I wouldn't be mad at it…but if that's the case they need to go bolster our defense to make it easier on the goalie
If the NJ Devils had Allen & Kähkönen in December or early January, they would have made it into the playoffs. I think Kähkönen has performed better than Allen. It should definitely be an option for Fitz in the event that Big Game Hunting proves to be too costly. The bigger issue is the defense. The Devils need 1 to 2 big burly stay at home defensemen who likes to hit things. They also need a new defensive coach.
Id give him a shot. Id prefer to spend resources and cap on solidifying bottom 6 and some veteran defense. And they need discipline and solid structure from a competent coaching staff
I really like what Kahkonen brings he brings in more calmness and has better control of rebounds. His blocker and stick side are better than Schmid’s
For goalies, Daws is our future, but he needs to mature a bit, Devils rode him into exhaustion last season and they should not have done that, get a solid 1a for a few years, ride Allen for 1 year to give Daws time to mature then bring him up…..As for the rest, we need 2 solid veteran shut down defensmen, as well as a solid forward to take faceoffs (replacement for McLeod). In addition (and the most important) we need a SOLID COACHING STAFF!!
