  1. There is no logic in giving pick 1 to the lowest team, when 3 teams are almost equal at the bottom. Tanking skews the competition. Teams they are playing might be vying for a spot in the 8. If several teams are vying for the wooden spoon, they both equally need the early pick. If they are close enough to make tanking an issue, make it a lottery between the two teams for the first pick.

  2. It is worse than that. Players that are inclined to use good technique to protect themselves, are being coerced by the AFL into not protecting themselves, since protecting yourself means a likely suspension. Think of the legal liability of this situation in the future.

  3. The AFL need to umpire these ground ball contests the same way they now umpire high tackles in which the ball carrier instigates the high contact. If you contribute to the head high contact, you won't be rewarded with a free kick. Yeah, you have to protect the head, but all players should be protecting themselves first.

  4. On the flipside about the North V Gold Coast game.
Maybe Gold Coast strategically lost the game, to meet their draft requirements
to be able to select Walter No.3, Read No.9, Rogers No.14 & Graham No.26.
