The Athletic’s breakdown of Toronto vs Boston

Pretty much exactly what you’d expect. We have the offensive edge, they have the defensive/goaltender edge

Nah nah you cannot take Reaves out of the lineup in a physical series against Boston

  2. ConnectOccasion7033

    Those defensive +/- are interesting…………

    Reaves is icing though.

It’s gonna come down to 2 things:

    1. Special Teams. The poor play of the PK this year and our recent history of an ineffective PP in the playoffs is a major concern.

    2. Goaltending. Clear edge for Boston.

Bruins in 7 being the most likely outcome is the least surprising thing we will see all week

I only have one real request. Let the teams decide it and not the fucking refs.

  6. Samsonov just needs to be good! The leafs can win this if they just get some good goaltending. Matthews needs to dominate from the start.

We were stronger in the second half of the season, and Boston was weaker, so these numbers probably underrate us a bit.

The biggest thing I’m expecting/hoping for is to see Playoff Mo. He was our best player in last years playoffs after a middling regular season. If we can get those 22+ minutes of our #1 defenseman back we’ll be unbelievable.

Second is power-play – it’s been both amazingly good and amazingly bad this season.

Third is just general star quality. With the offense spread like this, there should be real space on the ice at some point. Nylander is struggling lately but he should be feasting against the matchups he’s getting.

Let him go in…beat up a few idiots, then when he gets suspended for the rest of the series (because DOPes is totally legit 🤦) insert some depth scoring and end the bruins in 5 or 6.

Considering that our offence always dries up in playoff hockey, that’s not exactly reassuring. However, I think this edition of the Buds is better suited to fight through.

Isnt Swayman going to be the starter? Actually after looking at their stats the two goalies are practically identical.

  11. CarousersCorner

Reaves has to play game 1 to set the tone. Jarnkrok has been out for what seems like forever. I trust Reavo’s game at this point. He has a job

  12. realsalbowski

I’m worried about the goaltending. Theirs is so much better.

  13. LostBeneathMySkin

I’m a big stats guy. Love the numbers. Don’t give a fuck about them when it comes to the playoffs though. The only time of year they really just don’t matter in the slightest.

    Go Leafs!!!!!!

Nicky Bobby is like an assassin, he does a lot of damage with quick strikes and not much else.
Reavo is like a bard that gives buffs to the whole party…

I’d personally like to have Reavo in for a couple games – let’s Domi, Bert & co feel an inch or two taller out there.

Close series with a Bruins victory. Really going out on a limb here.

  16. Didn’t realize Liljegren was such an analytics darling. I wonder how well these ratings hold up when you look at only the latter half or even the last third of the season.

  17. Vivid_Fun_977

Its unfortunate that analytics like this seem to matter to people (and media) when really theyre irrelevant. Theyre as relevant as studying history for planning the future. The proof being 7 game sample size is too small to use, yet the sport all comes down to it. Regular season analytics mean fuck all when the playoffs start, and the team with better analytics doesnt win (See TB vs Tor last year)….. Numbers crowd will always move the goalposts to fit their narrative and the reason analytics works (Only in this market, noone in Carolina gives a flying fuck) is that they can make wins feel like losses.

Be honest, you really think these numbers / projections mean fuck all? You know Leafs have better forward group and Boston has better d and goalie because you watch games. But cool. +40 vs +10.

  18. juliusseizure

Someone bitch slap Marchand and I’ll consider this series a victory.

  19. hatcherhullmodano

I’m sorry everybody, but it’s over. This one probably doesn’t even go 6

  20. LesPaul86

Jarnkrok was useless last playoffs, and has been his entire career. This idea we must have him in there, his game has never translated to playoff hockey.

  21. Dangerous_Cream5837

Lyubushkin on the top pair is why we lose this series. It’ll be close, I think in 7 due to costly mistakes from brutal defensemen.

  22. thelonelywolf96

This is just me but all of these comparisons don’t matter. This is all psychological at this point.

  23. captain-canuckk

Bruins in 7 in OT. Dread it, run from it, destiny still arrives.

  24. FoggyNeutron

Typical leaf fans already coming up with excuses. Refs fault already lmfao

  25. CanadianGem

    Toronto in 5.

Take the Bruins out of the playoffs in Boston, Leafs win the series 4-1.
