McDavid cares about winning the Stanley Cup with the Oilers more than winning Olympic gold for Canada in 2026 proves my point that the NHL made a mistake by going back into the Olympics as both the players and fans don't care about Olympic hockey at all. To them, they would rather have their NHL team win the Stanley Cup over their national team win an Olympic gold medal.
There could be a situation where by 2026 McDavid wins the Stanley Cup with the Oilers while Auston Matthews wins an Olympic gold medal with Team USA and if fans and media say McDavid is the better player it would prove my point that the NHL going back into the Olympics was meaningless and pointless as fans and media value the Stanley Cup as more prestigious than an Olympic gold medal. NHL should never go back into the Olympics after 2026 ever again since fans, players and media care more for the Stanley Cup than the Olympics anyways.
