Doug Armstrong said he has a pulse on what direction he wants to go in as far as hiring a head coach but he informed Drew Bannister he is a candidate among a short list of names.

I think it was pretty much a given Bannister would end up on the short list, as would’ve any other interim coach they brought in. This was basically a drawn out job interview for him, which he performed decently well in.

I really wouldn’t be shocked to see Drew back on the bench next year. He didn’t do an awful job given the hand he was dealt.

  3. Yeah, I see no reason to take Bannister out of the running at this point. He did a perfectly good job with what he had, and who knows, he might end up being the best option available once the offseason gets into swing.

  4. I definitely do not want Bannister back. He continued to insist on playing Faulk with Krug, played Kapanen too high in the lineup for far too long, scratched Blais too much imo, played Hofer instead of Binnington against SJ when we NEEDED that win. Did some good things as well but I wasn’t too impressed

  5. I think the one comment that goes unnoticed from that presser is when he was asked about the internal development and the defense next season he did not mention Krug or Faulk at all but went on to mention every single other defenseman.

While I don’t have a problem with Bannister, I don’t think he’s our future head coach. He did well with the team he had, but something still feels disconnected between him and the players. I can’t really put it into words, but it feels like something is still missing between him and the team.

Keep banister. His record was good. On a team not expected to be in the playoffs, we weren’t out until the end.

I’m not a huge fan of him, but I like the way his interviews go, and the record speaks for itself.

If we can score 3 goals in a period and he still not be happy with the period, and vice versa, that means he looks at the game with transparency. He sees when we suck, and knows when we play well no matter the score.

Even if Bannister doesn’t stay with the Blues as HC, I think he’s earned a shot at the position around the league. Proud of him for stepping into a difficult role, getting the boys to respond late in the season, and delivering better results than we realistically could have anticipated.

What I hope we don’t do is the same thing we did to Payne: bring in a minor league coach mid-year, let him think he’s the future head coach all throughout camp, and preseason, and through Xmas, then fire him when some other big name NHL coach gets fired after his team quits on him (Hitchcock).

Keep Bannister unless Brind’Amour is let go by Carolina.

I think their list is probably of younger assistant coach’s that are up and comers that are currently in the playoff teams. Hence when he said their seasons aren’t over.

Keep Banner. We are a team with some real personnel weaknesses in terms of toughness and center play outside of Thomas (Schenner was fine but is a much better wing.) PP and PK could both still be better. Even so, Banner got us a top 10 record in the league and 4th in the conference from the point he took over. Oh, and WE HAVE TO STOP LOSING TO THE FUCKING FISH and other bottom feeders on a regular basis!
